I was so thankful to find Dr. Sheperd Pryor at Valley ENT, when searching for a physician to handle my nasal surgery. He and his staff were all very personable and kind. He took the time to explain the procedure, called a septoplasty, that would be required to correct my severely deviated nasal septum and improve my breathing. When I considered adding a “cosmetic” component to my surgery, he told me that he didn’t think I needed it – that my nose was actually pretty perfect as is! So many other doctors would have jumped on the chance to make more money, but he didn’t. The surgery center was impressive – staffed with wonderful people, clean, and well organized. I highly recommend Dr. Pryor to anyone considering either cosmetic or reconstructive nasal surgery.

** THIS REVIEW IS FOR SHEPHERD G. PRYOR AND THE PROCEDURES HE DID FROM 2015-2017 **

The first consultation/exam I ever had with Dr. Pryor was in May 2015. I had been under Pryor’s care since then. I was only 16 years old at the time and had a long-standing history of nasal obstruction as well as a nasal deformity externally. I was mostly bothered with the appearance of my dorsal hump and septum. I had difficulties with breathing from the nasal as well as having frequent allergies, inability to smell, and continuous loud snoring. These concerns were addressed the very first day with Pryor. I had never undergone previous surgery or suffered any facial/body injuries prior to meeting with him. Overall, I was hoping for improvement in breathing and the enhancement of my nose tip and bridge. Pryor reassured my father and I that these issues and concerns were resolvable and that he would take initiative in taking care of everything. He carefully explained what to expect pre and post surgery. We believed him when he said he would fix everything; meaning he would correct my deformities and on a cosmetic side help with my appearance. We assumed all would go perfectly well. Unfortunately, that was NOT the case.

On 07/29/2015 I was administered into surgery at Honorhealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. Operative reports that I have contain information of the type of procedure, the incisions made, anesthesia etc. The surgery was successful. The recovery and healing after surgery is what everyone would expect to have after undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure.

Several weeks after recovery, I returned for a follow-up in August 2015. When it was time for bandages to be removed and to see the results of my new nose that I had waited all my life for something completely out of the ordinary happened. When Pryor removed my bandages, he did so in such an aggressive manner that it caused the skin along my nose bridge to be removed which resulted in PERMANENT SCARRING. To break down the description of this procedure in medical terms; After topical anesthetic was placed, the nasal endoscope was used along with suction, Blakesley and bayonet forceps to meticulously debride crusting and debris from in and around the middle meatus, OPENED paranasal sinuses and intranasal areas. When I saw my nose for the first time in the mirror after weeks of recovering from surgery I was in utter disbelief and shock. I vividly remember storming out of the exam room in tears after seeing the appearance of my new scar. Pryor never took responsibility for the scar that he caused and to this day he will never take accountability for it. He never even apologized for the outcome. He knew what he had caused. I could see the look in his eyes when he removed the bandaging from the nose knowing he knew this was not supposed to happen. Pryor suggested nasal saline irrigations at the time. His concerns were giving time for the nose to properly heal. That the external nasal irritation and wound breakdown from the “tape related allergy” and suggested utilizing Xeroform dressing daily until the stitches dissolve completely.

I returned in mid September 2015 for more review and follow-ups regarding my scar. Although I had no residual sinus issues and my breathing had improved, the external skin deformity and scar had barely healed. There was an obvious color mismatch on my skin as the new scar attempted to heal. I was reassured this would continue to improve. I believed Pryor when he said that…

In 2017, we finally performed a scar revision procedure. The procedure was performed exactly on July 7th, 2017 (three days before my 19th birthday). This procedure was specifically for post nasal scar revision. After undergoing the procedure, several follow-up appointments were made to monitor the wound healing. I was instructed to gently clean my incisions and apply Bacitracin ointment to my incisions twice daily.

Pryor has no empathy for his actions. How could he do this? Does he not care about his patients or former patients? No wish to simply catch up after so many years in seeing how I'm doing physically, mentally and emotionally? It should be noted Pryor has admitted to performing three botched surgeries in his YouTube Video "Will My Nose Look Different After Surgery? Or What If I'd Like It To? Shepherd Pryor M D". Because of this, I feel obligated to share my story to everyone about my personal review with Pryor. I will continue sharing my story and experience to everyone I encounter wanting to make inquires of cosmetic or ENT concerns. I recommend not seeing him unless you're mentally prepared for botched surgery. Please avoid him at all costs!

Dr. Pryor did a superb job on a recent deviated septum surgery May 2021 that has greatly improved my breathing and sleeping. It also feels so amazing to have all the years of nasal congestion released that always had me feeling like I was having sinus infections. With my new and improved breathing, I no longer feel like I am constantly out of air. From my initial visit to post-op visit Dr. Pryor always took to time to listen, is kind, and has wonderful manners. He and his staff are very professional and excited to help you in improving your overall well-being. I highly recommend this doctor and his team for any concerns you may have.

Dr Pryor made an incredible impression from the start. Relaxed, very observant and a wonderful, comforting bedside manor. No God complex but a complete confidence in his ability. He carried a conversation at a level that the average Joe could understand. His assistant Suzet was efficient, comforting and empathetic. What a great team!

Dr. Pryor performed a septoplasty (deviated septum) surgery on me in April 2016 and I could not be happier with the results. During our initial consultation, he thought my breathing could increase by at least 75% upon completion of the surgery. Well today is Day 6 and the day he removed the stitches, the splints, and the nose cast and the difference in my breathing was immediate. It has improved 100% from where I was during our first visit. Thank you Dr. Pryor for your talent as a surgeon and your patience as a doctor. Sending all referrals your way...

My experience with Dr Pryor's office was the worst appointment of my life. Terrible, rude staff; late appointment (think 45 minutes), poor bedside manner and lack of attention to patient questions or concerns, a surprise flexible sinus endoscopy with no warning and NO anesthetic, and no follow up from his medical assistant, even when questions concern medications. I do not recommend.
