Well it's been a year since my last post. My husband died two weeks ago from melanoma and I blame Karen Bigby. Didn't listen to my husbands concerns over the lump on his cAlf and now he's gone two weeks before his 59rh birthday.

Amazingly poor specimen for a physician. There HAS to be some one with just a small amount if compassion . She has her own agenda and has no concerns about yours. Doesn't like questions, asks them if you, but proceeds to answer them herself. If this is what is offered as a good MD, perhaps a witch doctor with a mask might be a better choice.

Karen Bigby is a lousy Dr. If we had continued to see her my husband would be dead. She told him several times not to worry about a lump on the calf of his leg. Guess what doc stage 4 melanoma!! But she told him not to worry about it for over a year. Our new dr sent him immediately to have it removed. Thank god for a doctor that listens to his patients.

My husband and I chose Dr. Bigby for insurance reasons. What a mistake! Three years ago my husband asked her about a lump on the calf of his leg. She said nothing to worry about. A year later he asked again because it had grown and itched. Again she said don't worry about it. Last year my husbands employer got different health ins and we switched doctors. Our new Dr. Sent him to a surgeon to have it removed. It was stage 4 melanoma. He just had surgery to have the lymph nodes in his groin removed as the cancer had spread there. I wouldn't even call Bigby a doctor. She has no clue about anything. My husband could be dead if he continued to"don't worry about it!"

Firstly I want to say, her office staff are OK. Though every time i'd be 5 minutes early as requested for my appointments, i'd have to wait in the waiting room for no less than 10-15. I saw Dr. Bigby a handful of times over the course of a year or two before deciding to find a new GP. She is very intolerant of any opinions and questions, states her thoughts as end-all-be-all and is very matter-of-fact about everything. Everything is only referred to in her schooling and learning, and anything outside of that is essentially blasphemy. Does not tolerate questions from anyone but the patient themselves (say you have a signficant other with you or a family member...) Is very set in her ways. Pros, I could get my yearly female checkups done with her as she is able and willing to do those. But that clearly was not enough to keep me seeing her. She is good for one visit or two but very curt and extremely difficult to deal with if you want information and suggestions and to know all aspects or get multiple different opinions of something. Initially I thought it was just the day or something else was going on. But I found it is just the way she is.
In the end I decided to stop seeing her and found another physician to see, however, later on afterwards I received a "breakup" letter in the mail from her office -LOL- stating that they would no longer be able to continue as my physician.

Frequently demeans other practitioners. My cancer specialist spent three years curing my prostate cancer that was said by others to be too far advanced, with only months to survive it. After curing me, suggested several supplements along with continuing other medications designed to prevent return of the cancer and give me a generally healthier body. When I gave that info to Dr. Bigby, via my current list of medications, she said that would only make expensive urination. She alluded to his care that same way on more than one occasion. She parrots what she was fed in her medical schooling. She is very opinionated and egotistical regarding her knowledge and skills. She ordered a test for me at her hospital, I made the appointment, went to the hospital at the appointed time and was told by the staff there that Medicare would not pay for that and that I would have to. Dr Bigby had told me that it was covered. Hospital staff spent about an hour back and forth with Dr, Bigby trying to get her to properly "code" the procedure for Medicare. I finally went home after a long wait. I was called by her office and argued with her (Dr. Bigby) about the reason for not getting it done. I felt her arrogance regarding this was very inappropriate. I fired her. She sent me, and probably others, a certified letter indicating that she could no longer continue as my physician, even though it was I who severed the relationship. I could go on, but will not.

I only saw Bigby because Dr. Burg was on vacation; I was recently hospitalized, but still very ill after finishing my antibiotics. Hospital diagnosed kidney infection with severe pain in my left abdominal cavity and my lower back. I've been running low grade fevers for months (99.7-100.4). One of the doctors at the hospital said I needed to look into getting evaluated for Lupus and Hashimoto's. My levels were even more elevated at the hospital than Burg's lab results I had taken right before his vacation. I was put on Keflex at the hospital as well as pain meds. The entire time I was on the antibiotics and even after I finished them I still had pain and low-grade fevers. Bigby would not listen to me, spoke over me, disregarded my persistent low-grade fevers by saying nothing is a fever unless it is over 101, disregarded my labs, went on a strange rant using an analogy about generic cereal brands Vs Tony the Tiger that was irrelevant to our discussion, and was also rude to my husband.

The front staff at this office is very polite and friendly. BUT.....Please consider all your options before selecting Dr. Bigby as your physician. Although she is willing to spend a fair amount of time with you, she demonstrates a poor bedside manner, lacks professionalism and is very judgmental.
