It's not often that one has to argue with a provider in order to get a bill. But that's the ridiculous situation I'm facing with Dr. Hilkemann's office. His billing process is antiquated and his billing clerk, Carolyn, provides a different story every time I call her. When I called today, with my insurance company on the line, Carolyn told me she had sent BCBS two previous statements. BSBC has no record of that. When I said I was caught in the middle and that I needed to spend down my flex account - Carolyn added that she deals with "hundreds" of accounts every day. Do the math - that would mean each of the 3 doctors in the practice sees a minimum of 4 patients every hour. Where's the quality of care if that's the case? My advice: Go to anyone other than Dr. Hilkemann - there are others choices out there with the office infrastructure and staffing to deal professionally and efficiently (and honestly)with patients.

Ridiculously slow billing process. Two months after my appointment - still no bill, so I called to see why. The doctor's office told me it had been submitted to insurance, but they hadn't heard back yet. When I called BCBS, they hadn't received the claim, so they called the doctor's office and learned that the claim had just been submitted (following my phone inquiry). At year-end, when trying to spend down Flex Accounts - one would expects (and needs) more timely info about medical costs. And....honest answers from the doctor's billing office

Went in for in-grown toenails and he fixed me right up. Very nice guy, had a pleasant visit.

I went in to see him because I work on my feet all day long and they were getting sore and more sore as time went on. On the first appointment, he took X-rays, diagnosed my condition, made casts of my feet and got me custom inserts for my feet. Ever since my feet have felt great and are no long sore. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

The doctor did not inform me of the need for follow-up therapy, instead said to go home and put on a tennis shoe. My foot has no flexibility and needs much physical therapy.Don't know if he were unaware or just forgot to mention it. Surgery went fine; aftermath was disappointing since I was not expecting this.

Dr. Hilkemann is very approachable and nice, but clearly does not know how to treat VERY common ailments. I went to him with a plantars wart. At the first appointment, Dr. Hilkemann suggested creams to apply to the wart. After that did not work (requiring a second office visit), he continued to suggest creams. At the THIRD office visit, he cut the wart out - leaving a half dollar sized crater in my foot. He prescribed no pain medication for my open wound, and also failed to cauterize or dress the wound. I went home, realized my open would was bleeding, and had to send my husband out for gauze and dress the wound myself. Luckily, I am an RN and know how to handle these types of things. Bottom line: there are other doctors out there. Shop them out and avoid this one.
