I thought my eye surgeries went well, despite the conveyor belt process of his patients. However, after developing pain in both eyes after surgery, I returned and he would not listen, yelled at me, slammed the door. He is a horrible doctor and my eyes are forever damaged.

Very happy with Dr. Thompson and his staff. He's personable and takes the time to explain things. His staff is very helpful also. Will continue with him as my opthalmologist.

Dr Thompson was very knowledgeable, professional but friendly, made me feel at ease. He was the first doctor to successfully treat my chronic dry eye syndrome, and now I no longer have the need to use artificial tears! I highly recommend Dr. Thompson.

Would not recommend this person to anyone. He was anxious to do unneeded surgery. He did not know that optical was my background so what he was telling me just did not add up.

What a professional team! Warm, friendly staff. Dr. Thompson really listened to what I had to say, which is something many doctors I have been to seem to not do. I would HIGHLY recommend seeing Dr. Thomspon for any eye care needs! He fixed my eyes!! THANK YOU!!

Biography

Dr Jay Thompson, also known as John E Thompson III, is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease. He also treats adult patients for conditions including, but not limited to, macular degeneration, infections, eye trauma, dry eye, pterygium, and eyelid disorders. Originally from Portland, Oregon, Dr Thompson graduated with high honors from Middlebury College in Vermont with a degree in Biochemistry. He was lured to Charleston to attend the Medical University of South Carolina on the prestigious E. Conyers O'Bryan Scholarship, a full merit-based scholarship, awarded for academic achievement. His residency in ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School concluded with him serving as chief resident during his final year. Dr Thompson received the Frey Award, for excellence in research, from the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology. This award recognizes only one resident in the state every year. He has done extensive research in ophthalmology, has published papers in leading ophthalmology journals, and continues to be involved in clinical studies. The doctor met his wife, Heather, as a medical student and the two have been married for 11 years, currently residing on James Island with their two beautiful daughters. About The Practice Lowcountry Eye Specialists, also known as The Cataract and Laser Center of Charleston, is the comprehensive ophthalmology practice of Dr Jay Thompson. Just off the I-26, we are located near the intersection of Ladson Road and Highway 78, convenient to the greater North Charleston, Summerville, Ladson, Goose Creek, Hanahan, and Moncks Corner areas. The practice was founded in 2008 and has experienced rapid growth due to our relentless commitment to providing compassionate, state of the art, evidence-based medical and surgical eye care in a modern, comfortable office. The entire staff at Lowcountry Eye Specialists has the singular goal of making every patient's experience superlative in every way. We make every attempt to have same day appointments available for emergency or urgent cases. In addition, Dr Thompson keeps an open line of communication with his patients' other doctors, sharing all pertinent findings, his treatment plan, and even makes his cell number available to all of his patients and referring doctors so that they can call him at night or on weekends with any questions or concerns. In October of 2012 we moved into our brand new facility, clearly visible on Highway 78. This much needed expansion allows us to continue the same personal, cutting-edge care in a larger patient-oriented space. We plan to be here for years to come with the goal of being the premiere provider of medical and surgical eye care to the North Area.
