I have been seeing Dr. Averch for over 5 years now, actually more than I see my PCP. I have a chronic kidney stone disease and he has proven to be an expert in it. While he can, at times, seem abrupt, he knows what he's talking about, especially concerning stone disease. I dread the day he retires (a long time from now but I'm currently 23) as I doubt I will trust another urologist like I do him. I would absolutely recommend him to any of my friends or family members. As a professional nurse, trust me when I say that physician attitude/personality is no reflection on their abilities, this man is wonderful!

I began to see Dr.Averch about 7 years ago for a urethra stricture. I was previously under another dr's care who treated me with urethral dialation for 5 years. The diolation method never made any diffference to the UTI I was getting. I then began to see Dr. Averch. He immediately had me begin self catheterizing myself to keep the strictured area open as much as possible. This method worked for several years, then I began to get the UTI's again. Dr. Averch then explained to me a procedure called Urethroplasty. He recommended me several doctors who performed this procedure, as there was no qualified physician in the area. I chose Dr. Metro in Philadelpia who is an excellent and well know urological surgeon. I had the surgery and now I am doing well. Dr. Averch is a man who cares about his patients, uses medical appoaches that work, and is will give you the best medical advice possible, even if it requires you to seek another professional. This is all you can ask for from a doctor.

I had a fairly simple urology problem a couple years ago and Dr Averch was very helpful to me and I recovered nicely from surgery. I had no complaints at all. Now, after two recent visits, with a completely different urology problem, my feelings and attitude towards him is changing. He has been quite abrupt with me, as other posters have said. He was not like that at all in my previous visits. He has not returned some phone calls I have made to his office, though the office staff is very nice and accommodating. I am waiting on test results and there doesn't seem to be any hurry in contacting me. Dr. Averch seems unavailable and aloof. I do not kow what to think or how to respond to this situation.

This doctor was recommended to me by a family doctor. I found him to very abrupt, distant and mediocre in his knowledge of my urology problems. He does not like to take the time needed to do a thorough exam nor listen to my symptoms or explain what he thinks or knows about my urology problems. He will order lots of tests and in this area he is thorough. I have had these ongoing medical problems for over 6 years, and only reason I came to him was the death of my previous urologist. I think I will be moving onto another doctor in this field. He hasn't taken care of me the way I felt he would have. Not much compassion, no humor.

Dr. Averch and his staff have been very unhelpful to me. Not only that, but he has a very arrogant attitude, and has a tendency to speak in a very condescending manner. He totally lacks compassion and has absolutely no bedside manner, whatsoever.
