I was referred to Dr. Hutchings with chronic inexplicable headaches. On my first visit, he spent less than ten minutes with me, listened to nothing I said, and then told me they were medication induced, even though I explained to him that I only took painkillers for the very worst. He told me to stop taking painkillers, failed to tell me I needed to return to the university clinic in a month to have a new medication prescribed, and then didn't provide another appointment for six months. After six months with no painkillers, NONE of the symptoms have changed, but he felt he could finally start treating the classic migraines. He was deliberately evasive about medication side effects, and only when I picked up the prescription did I find out the drug he had prescribed had the one side effect I would not tolerate-weight gain. I called to tell him I wouldn't take the drug, and never heard from him again. The whole time he was condescending, unsympathetic, and distant. I will NEVER go back.

He may have been knowledgeable but I don't know so I gave him a 3. THe reason I don't know was because he made me so nervous I was unable to ask questions. When talking about treatment and if I would ask him a question about that he would say it was up to me! That's why you have a doctor - so you don't treat yourself. He should have been a vet but then I would feel sorry for the animals. I had someone with me and I was feeling something from him right from the start but then my companion said he was definitly talking down to me the whole time. I wouldn't recommend this man to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

He spent most of the time reading the file. He mentioned a new drug and I asked him what he would recommend and was told that was up to me to decide. He mentioned that all I would have to do was call and he would phone the new perscription to my druggist. I called three times and had no response from him. My visit was a waste of time.

I thought that Dr. Hutchings was fantastic and so compassionate until I started to question my progress. I don't think he likes that as he would not directly answer any of my questions. When I asked about recovery of numbness in my legs, he simply stated that there was always a chance, when pursuing to get a % number, he had no response. When I began to get upset (crying), I was told to see him in a year, and Jill would escort me to the door. I'm glad I had someone with me, as noone would have believed the way I was treated. Looking forward to seeing someone new in Halifax.

Very professional physician. Straight forward manner, takes lots of time, I never feel rushed. Asks if I have any questions and is very detailed. I am very glad to have him involved in my care.

Seems to be very professional but not very emphatic with his patients, more so with female ones. His methods feel intimidating.

Your not in the army there doc... i felt as though i was just another one of his numbers. for god sakes don't ask him any questions because he is telling u your not telling him. i then went to dr. silverberg and what a much better doctor. i am glad that we now have another neurologist.
