My son was born with multiple special needs. He is 18 now and Dr. Paschen has been his pediatrician his entire life. He has always taken the time to sit down with us and discuss any concerns we have no matter how small. Even though my son can be a real handful at his appointments Dr. Paschen is always very kind and gentle. He and his staff are always very responsive whenever I have called the office with any questions or concerns. My wife and I have both been RN`s for over 30 years each. We know a great doctor when we see one. Dr. Paschen is just that. Great.

Best doctor ever! All 3 of my kids see him. At one time 2 if my 3 kids had RSV. One of them was hospitalized. He came to the hospital to check on both kids on his own time. Also canceled my appointment for the child that was not hospitalized and checked her out in the room with my sick child. Saved me my copay!

Dr. Paschen is an excellent physician. He is very thorough and I trust him completely. I will be sad next year when my daughter will have to start going to an "adult" doctor. My daughter has had very serious problems off and on, and Dr. Paschen was able to help us through all of them. She is now a very healthy athlete. He is very compassionate, with a heart of gold. He is probably at his best when a child has a disability of some kind or a somewhat rare condition; that's why a lot of parents of special needs kids shop around until they find him. He was my child's doctor for at least 15 years, and I have never once been unhappy with him (and I am very picky when it comes to physicians!)

Dr. Paschen was the pediatrician for my son, who is now 4. At the first appointment, I told him I was reluctant about vaccines and was electing not to have them given to my child. He said he recommended them but it was my choice, the following appointment, he quilted my wife into giving all the shots to our son. My wife said he was saying that it was a school requirement; we were bad parents if we did not do it, and our son would die if he did not have them. We now have a daughter who is 6 months old. I have had several conversations which are mpre like arguments with him about the vaccines and the fact that I do not believe they are safe. He told us that we are just like the Taliban for not giving the vaccines to her and if we are not changing our mind, he cannot be our doctor. Needless to say, we will never be going back.

He is very rude and condescending. He treats patients (and parents) as if they are hypochondriacs even after the nurses acknowledge that the flu is going around. Maybe he's just jaded from working in the field this long, but I've never met a doctor this cold and cynical.

Dr. Paschen is a fantastic pediatrician. He is very caring and he actually thinks before prescribing treatment. We had several medical problems with my child while we were abroad, and Dr. Paschen was always on the phone to help. Dr. Paschen is also extremely professional from the point of view of epidemiology - something which most parents take for granted. It is people like Dr. Paschen who make sure that not only your child but most kids in Ames schools stay healthy.

I have had mixed experiences with Dr. Paschen. We moved to Ames 2 years ago and our son was hospitalized for croup under Dr. Paschen's care, but we had not met him yet. We had our first well check a month after this. Upon entering the exam room, Dr. Paschen said, "I don't believe I've met you yet." I was shocked. I didn't expect him to remember us, but I DID expect him to review my son's file for this FIRST exam and know that he'd been recently hospitalized (under HIS care) and know that he had a history of serious croup. I was also pregnant at the time and began a conversation regarding vaccinations. I stressed that I was PRO vaccines, but I had concerns. Instead of having an adult to adult conversation, he was very condescending. I almost didn't go back, but I never changed Dr on file with insurance. A few months later my son woke limping with no explanation. Dr. Paschen was VERY thorough and spent time with me on the phone several times. My baby sees Dr. Halbur though.

Dr. Paschen is the best of the best. He is our pediatrician, and I could not ask for anyone more caring. I have had to see other staff at McFarland when Dr. Paschen was not in, and I won't ever do it again. I will wait for him. He is friendly and his exams are complete. He makes sure I understand what he is saying. He is never condescending and even if there is nothing wrong with my child, I never feel silly for going to see him. I recommend all my friends see him, and you should too. Dr. Paschen's office called to check up on my son once when he was sick. How many doctor's do you know that will do this? None. He has never been wrong about a diagnosis reguarding my children. Never. A+.

Dr. Paschen is a GREAT and caring doctor. Our three sons have been going to him for their entire lives, starting with my oldest son 9 years ago. He has seen them through shots, infections, sore throats, you name it. I would strongly recommend him to other parents (and I have in the past). I have NEVER had a problem with him, and in my opinion there is not a better doctor that you could take your kids to.
