We were a bit nervous when referred to Dr. Berman about 7 years ago for our son's strabismus. We had heard from quite a few people about his poor bedside manner, but we had also heard that he knew his stuff and was the best around Portland... so off we went to our appointment. (Besides, we figured that at the end of the day, it didn't really matter how touchy-feely he was as long as he was the best at what he does.) Dr. Berman certainly wasn't chit-chatty, but we actually liked the way he got straight to the point and didn't waste time sugar-coating his words for us. He was friendly and to the point. Our son has been seeing Dr. Berman ever since then and we really feel like our kiddo's vision is in the best hands. He greets us with a warm hello at every visit and makes our son an active part in his own care by asking him questions directly. We are totally happy with Dr. Berman!

My daughter has nystagmus as well as other issues. He diagnosed her immediate symptoms and ultimately referred us to another specialist. We never returned to him due to his poor bedside manner.

Dr. Berman saw my daughter from the time she was 2.5 yrs until she was 13. He treated her strabismus and amblyopia. He surgically treated her eyes when she was 3, followed by patching and bifocals for awhile. Due to his diligence she never needed further surgery and her eyes are GREAT! We were a bit sad when she graduated to the regular eye doctor. Thank you Dr. Berman!

This man is the pits. He is a pedeatric opthomoligist and he is arrogant without reason. He treated my child poorly and did not diagose the brain problems behind my daughter's poor vision, telling me that she was uncooperative and it was her/my imagination. Go to Boston and find someone decent instead.
