Dr. Carolyn Bernes has been my G.P. for over 20 yrs. I changed to her after being patronized by an older male doctor who told me I would find healing if only I'd start going to church. Ummmm ... hmmm. Whatever.

Dr. Bernes has always been respectful and patient with me, even when I've been anxious. I'm an RN with university specialty in Critical Care .. so I'm not unknowledgeable. Dr. Bernes has never EVER treated me like an idiot. She has listened respectfully and asked questions only as they related to my health. She has never been judgemental. Not ever.

I'm sorry to see her go; nonetheless I wish her all the best in her retirement. She deserves it!!

I only hope that her patients, including myself ... will be passed on to someone equally compassionate. God help us if it's some insensitive pr!ck who holds anti-fat views against post-menopausal women. *sigh*

I have been a patient of Dr. Bernes for 30 plus years , and myself a registered nurse. She has provided me at all times with compassionate care, direction, assessment and excellent knowledge related to any problem I have. She has always been quick to referr me to specialtys when needed. I have full confidence in her care and she always makes me feel safe in her judgements. I have recently heard she may be retiring soon and I
wish her well in a well deserved retirement, but will miss her wonderful care.

Dr. Berness is judgemental and disrespectful. When I asked for ways to increase my iron as a vegetarian I was told that God wants us to eat animals and I might realize that if I were more mature. She should learn to keep personal views out of her medical practice and to be a little more pleasant when interacting with other people. Left her practice and found another doctor because I was tired of her treatment.

Dr. Bernes is a competent doctor who has provided me with great medical service over the last 13 years. She is not my friend, nor do I ask or wish her to be. She is my doctor who does her job with confidence and I have always felt I am in good hands. I can always get in for an appointment within a reasonable amount of time and she is always on time when I arrive. With the addition of the Maple after hours clinic is has been amazing the level of care I am receiving in such a timely manner. From some of the other posts below it looks like people just want a new best friend, when I go to a doctors appointment I want a confident competent doctor who will address my concerns and get me back to work in a reasonable time.

Dr. Bernes has been my family doctor for over 20+ years, even throughout university when I didn't live in the city. She isn't paid to be your best friend, she's paid to be a physician, which is what she does an excellent job at. She is attentive and listens well, very knowledgeable and takes the time to access what is best for her patients. Wish I still lived in the area and was still seeing her, she's an excellent doctor.

Dr. Bernes has been our family doctor for many years. I have always found her to be exceptional in listening, questioning and diagnosing; always thorough. As for these comments about a lack of empathy or bedside manner...our health care system does not pay doctors to chat over coffee or entertain patients. Often, if you don't get an early day appt., they are already running behind, so that may be the reason she isn't as chatty as some would like. I have received phone calls 2 or 3 times in the evening from Dr. Bernes in follow up to a visit and/or in follow up when she's noticed one of my children had been seen at after hours clinics repeatedly for throat infections. She took that time to call to discuss referral to ENT. I have always been extremely satisfied with Dr. Bernes and have the utmost confidence and respect in her as my family's doctor.
