Dr. Levy has been working with my family member for a few years. He has been very good in addressing her psychiatric needs. He has been proactive in supporting her disability case and coordinating with other people who are involved in her life. I can see that some reviews of him are not good, but people reading need to understand that like all relationships, not everyone is going to sync with whatever person happens to come along. I have worked in the mental health field myself for many years so believe me, I know what a bad psychiatrist is. Different providers have different methods, and you need to ask about a provider's methods and how things are done there, before you set up your intake appointment - same as any other type of service you hire. Dr. Levy is a great doctor and has helped many people, including my own family.

In 2018 this Dr almost killed my son and we haven’t been able to recover since. My son started to see this “doctor” for depression. He was somehow diagnosed as having ADHD although he was tested at a young age and it was determined he did not have ADHD. Dr levy put my son on Vyvance 30mg Xr for 10 days: when my son emailed the office to confirm if he should take it with applesauce it was communicated back that he now had an additional medication. ADDERALL 30mg XR as well….my son was in the hospital the next day due to a drug induced psychosis break. We had to show the hospital the email exchanges to prove that my son did not do this on purpose because they couldn’t believe a Dr, a mental health MD could/ would do such a thing. My husband and I did go immediately to his office to confront him and he admitted fault and apologized. I am writing this many years later- we never did anything about what happened because we didn’t know what to do- call the police on a Dr? And we were dismissed by other mental health providers as that can’t possibly be true. Since that mental break in my otherwise normal son, who was only seeking normal life depression treatment (recent hs graduated, not sure what he wanted to do in life, a recent passing of a friend, gf issues - 19 year old life hiccups etc) has had constant issues all stemming from the Vyvance/Adderal OD. Till this day we have yet to find a mental health professional to undo the years YEARS of damage this Dr oversight has caused. My son was an honor roll, athletic, funny, outgoing, loving person and now he cannot tell what’s real and what’s not and is a shell of the person he once was with no end in sight. FMH is another joke-I literally just drove to another hospital 40 mins away because I had to have him admitted for psychiatric help. I am reminded once again of how sideways our lives went after he treated our son!

I didn't comment at the time I was a patient, a friend needs a new Psychiatrist, I saw him about 4-5 times following the sudden death of my husband. We were both in our early 40's and 3 younger kids. Every visit I walked in, his head was in the computer and he asked to explain why I was there. Ok, first visit understand able. My husband just passed away. I had been with him since I was 16, married 20 years, kids he died suddenly at dinner infront of our kids. Trouble sleeping, anxiety, depression etc. Wrote me 2 scripts no information about them or what their purpose was. The next 4 times, same thing, I'm crying 2 minutes into my explanation. Why is he making me repeat the death of my husband and events as he stares at a computer screen every single visit first thing.. I'm not special, I know he probably has alot of patients but you can't remember one who is a relatively young widow with children who was witnessed everything? Is he cruel? No, he doesn't care, he's probably typing the notes from his last session, (when in reality he should be reviewing his notes from my last session)booking a dinner reservation for him and his wife, I got one of those courtesy interruptions too, was he playing candy crush? Who knows. I stopped seeing him, stopped taking the medication. Then had a siezure 3 days later because I didn't know anything about Xanax and if you take it every day for a few months you don't just stop. I did my research and found a wonderful new psychiatrist who cares about her patients, probably not as much as Dr Levy cares about that terrible hair piece, plugs, rug, I don't know what was on his head but was definitely not normal. And I'm not seeing a known script doc. I've heard him referred to as a script doc by friends, a couple police officers, a couple nurses and an actual Dr called him one. That's pretty bad if another Dr says that, they know how damaging that is. So if you really want a Dr wo will listen to you, actually look at you and pretend to care go somewhere else. If u r looking for specific meds then by all means, he is the Dr for you

I have seen Dr Levy for years. The bad reviews I read here sound like a doctor who is NOT the doctor I have seen for years. He is a caring, knowledgeable doctor or I would not have stayed with him for so many years. I do not see him for addiction like some others. He is willing to try new things. Some things said here in bad reviews are describing a totally different doctor than the Dr Levy I have known as a patient for many years. He has a good attitude and really tries to help his patients. I respect Dr Allen Levy very much and think he is a good doctor.!!!

Sorry for the John Smith, but since I'm reviewing and revealing some symptoms of a psych visit/doctor prefer not to use a real name.As several reviews have said find ANYONE else, it will be a step up. Guaranteed.

Me BiPolar 2, major depression. Last Visit, I brought up that the depression was getting worse, tried to explain some of the symptoms I had been experiencing over the past 3 months, constantly kept interrupting me on every single on. Finally, after discontinuing 1 med I was on, cutting the dose in half for the one to control my depression(he says cutting it in half it will work better(huh)) If that's the case why have I been at the higher dose the entire time I have been seeing him ? And then starting me on a new medicine. Can we say shotgun approach to psychiatry? How in the F@#$ do you make three major changes to a med routine and then know what causes a improvement if there is one?

And then there was his wife (psychiatrist at the practice also) sticking her head in the door in the middle of the so called session, to discuss their DINNER plans.Yep can't make this shi up lol.

To end the session, I was answering a question he had asked when he abruptly said, right, see you in 3 weeks, and we were done.

Me, I'll be seeing someone else in three weeks, that's for sure.

The women behind the desk were really friendly, and although everyone in the waiting room could clearly hear them talking in detail about this patient and that, e.g., who was drug-seeking, who had been kicked out of group, etc., I didn't hear names mentioned and therefore wrote it off. There were many patients in and out, and everyone seemed to know everybody else. It took a few months to get in to see Dr. Levy, and at first, I wrote off the inattentiveness, interrupting, nervous tics, and looking at the computer screen (I don't believe he ever looked at me), as eccentricity. Like an absent-minded professor-type, intelligent, but very odd. He went through my history in about 5 minutes, interjected his own interpretation of my words, and seemed to "size me up" almost instantly. He dismissed my questions and concerns. In so many words he said, "I've seen it all, done it all, I know everything, and you are like all the others, and you will do as I say and not question me, or else." I paraphrase but that was definitely the gist of it. I know that providers who work with addicts day in and day out can become jaded and cynical. I'm sure he has seen and heard everything. But making assumptions and relying on instincts, is dangerous behavior for a doctor prescribing powerful medications to patients who come seeking help, patients who are vulnerable, people putting their lives in the hands of someone they see as an expert, an authority figure. He could hardly contain his irritation if I took too long to answer question. He changed a psychiatric medication I had been taking for 5 years and would not say why. He brushed off questions and literally said, "I'm in charge of all your medication now," and he abruptly walked out of the room. The next visit was awful. Before looking at me he asked, "where is your support system, " and before I could answer or even think he said, "I don't see them," while looking around the room, and then he said he wouldn't treat me because my "prognosis was sh*t." Exact words. I was stunned. I couldn't decide if I had been meant to bring someone with me (which was never mentioned), or if I had taken too long to answer, or said the wrong thing. He was out the door before I could speak. I had been in his office for less than 3 minutes. I had failed some test I didn't know I was taking, or didn't know the secret code. One of his staff attempted to refer me to someone else. She seemed kind and told me I would get a call from another provider that afternoon. I didn't get a call. After I left, feeling humiliated and confused, I tried to reconstruct what had transpired at the two appointments, and realized I had been disrespected and bullied, and if it hadn't been under the guise of a "doctor's appointment," I would have realized right away that something was seriously wrong with this practice. The Hippocratic Oath is, "Do no Harm." I wonder how many others have left his office feeling degraded and unseen and unheard? If you are desperate for treatment and decide Dr. Levy is your only option (Suboxone treatment is hard to come by), go to him with your head down and prepare to be treated poorly. Think of him as a very arrogant and abusive drug dealer who will get you what you want, on his terms.

Serious ethical issues as well as rude and unhelpful. He overmedicates and breaks confidentiality often. Many of his staff therapists are undereducated and unqualified as well as have serious criminal backgrounds.

Lousy doctor. Doesn't listen and he is always late plus he thinks too much of himself. The patients are paying you to be in business so I guess you work for us. You've been fired!

I've been seeing dr.levy for about two years. Most of the people writing the bad reviews were kicked out for using weather they want to admit it or not. He runs the whole place and he's only human so you can only expect for mistakes to be made here and there. Over all everything he does comes from a great place. I have seen 8 different doctors and I never once stayed sober until I went to levys. Not only has staff bent over backwards to help me stay in the class through insurance issues and what not, but the people who attend group have done everything in their power to make it a great place as well. I look forward to group everytime I go, it's a home for me once a week. I know everyone by name and they know me as well. Levy does the best he can and had given multiple chances to those who have relapsed but he has to think of the safety of the whole group in the long run and I thank him for that. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to get sober.
