Consult was via zoom and surgery was in person. I absolutely love Dr Kunwar and his NP Anne Marie. They’re both very patient and kind. He goes to great length to explain everything pre, during and post surgery to me, and gave me options to make my decision . I felt quite comfortable having him do my surgery. My gut feeling about Dr. Kunwar was correct. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs his skills and expertise. You won’t regret it. I suspect those who gave Dr Kunwar a one star are likely competitors in disguise. He’s not a doctor who would rush you or have no time for you. Believe me, when he speaks to you in your first consult, you will discover the truth yourself. .

I was diagnosed with a prolactinoma in 2012 and I was with Kaiser at the time. My endocrinologist just put me on Cabergoline and once my prolactin levels became normal, she said I was "cured. " Nevertheless, I was plagued with severe symptoms ever since, both from the tumor and the mediation. I finally ended up on medical leave from work because my worsening vision, lack of balance, dizzy spells, and migraines were too much to bear.

It took me over 3 years, but I finally came to UCSF for a second opinion, and I'm so grateful that I did. They scheduled me for surgery right away and Dr. Kunwar was amazing. My tumor had even invaded the cavernous sinus, but Dr. Kunwar was able to remove it; not many surgeons are able or willing to remove tumors that invade the blood vessels in the brain. His skill, knowledge, and experience are second to none, and I knew I was in great hands from the moment I met him through the moment I was rolled into that operating room.

Getting brain surgery with Dr. Kunwar was the best decision I've ever made regarding my health. As an attorney, my career rests upon my brain being in tip-top shape at all times, and I wanted to make sure that I had the very best neurosurgeon operating on me. I would recommend Dr. Kunwar and UCSF to anyone suffering from this often times debilitating disease. Thank you, Dr. Kunwar for giving me my life back!

I truly believe that Dr Kunwar saved my life. I had this reoccurring pituitary tumor. He performed all three surgeries (a resident for the first surgery) ... two transphenoid and one craniotomy.

Before my last surgery, my pituitary tumor exploded (in my brain ... of course) leaving me in a coma and other not so good diseases ... though Dr Kunwar is a surgeon, he over saw my care for the entire month I was in the hospital.

I suffered a great deal of cognitive deficits. Though he is extremely busy (and important ... emergency surgeries can lead to a long wait time ... so it is COMPLETELY understandable ... as I probably messed with a lot of appointments when I got really sick) he always took the time to ask me questions and to answer the ones that I had. He never talked down to me and always explained my options and their risks, never pushing me.

I have joined some online support groups, and all have had great things to say about Dr Kunwar ... even talking to a person in another country, helping her with medical decisions on her loved ones pituitary tumor.

Though I live out of the area, I would travel to have Dr Kunwar perform surgery on my brain. It's my brain ... I would not trust another doctor.

I went to Dr. Kunwar after 3 failed pituitary surgeries at my local hospital, OHSU in Portland, Oregon. By the time I got to Dr. Kunwar, my tumor was still quite large and had invaded areas difficult to operate in. Though I had been through it all before, Dr. Kunwar took the time to explain what he saw in the scans and how he would operate. His transphenoidal surgery had the fastest recovery time and longest lasting effect of all my surgeries. I was in the hospital only one night. After 9 years, I am showing some small tumor growth again, but that is so much better than what I had had before. My recommendation for anyone with a pituitary tumor is to go to one of the very few nationally-ranked pituitary centers for treatment. Dr. Kunwar at UCSF is certainly one of the best.

Dr. Sandeep Kunwar is a brilliant surgeon who truly devotes his life to helping people like me. Diagnosed with a pituitary tumor, my doctors just treated me with pills. I never felt right and surgery was never discussed as an option for me. I did some research on my own and kept finding Dr. Kunwar's name; reading about him and his research. He's passionate about what he does and is an expert is addressing issues like mine. He performed neurosurgery on me in 2005 and I'm back to myself again. Textbook surgery, textbook recovery....all thanks to Dr. Kunwary. He's wonderful, straightforward, and is willing to educate you and take the time to help you make the right decisions for yourself.

This is the BEST neurosurgeon, practicing in a facility that has the most modern up to date tools and supportive staff. All allow surgery to be performed with lesser risks. He is brilliant and saved my son's life from a hemorrhagic cystic pituitary adenoma. I would highly recommend this doctor if you need neurosurgery. He is also very personable and yet serious and steady, all the qualities you'd want from someone who is about to perform surgery on your brain! I can't say enough about Dr. Kunwar. I researched several options for my son, and as an advanced nurse practitioner myself, I think my studies paid off when we decided to go with him and UCSF. Another important issue is to consider the number of surgeries of that type your doctor has performed and the staff's experience. Outcomes are closely linked to this vital issue. Pick someone and a place that does A LOT of that type of surgery and you will have a statistically better chance for a good outcome.
