We are constantly reminded by physicians of the big bad lawyers and the big bad insurance agents. I would have agreed until today. My 11 year old daughter became sick at school. Her throat was sore and reddish in the opinion of the nurse. She had a fever and was very lethargic. Obviously, she needed to see the pediatrician who has cared for her for the past 11 years. What do I hear when I call? Dr. Pascucci is booked for the day as are his associates. What does that mean? A child is sick. You can't stay for another 15 minutes! So I am instructed to call tomorrow. What has happened to medicine? The irony is that if I called my lawyer or our insurance agent--they'd be available to speak/meet today. Very disappointing.
