On a trip to Bozeman my husband came down with the worst headaches he has ever experienced. As a physician, he decided to spend several days treating himself w/o any success. He finally made the decision to visit an urgent care center to see what another physician would suggest/diagnose. We met with Dr. Pessl, who was so kind and friendly from the moment he walked in the door. He listened to my husband...who is 68...list out his myriad of medications and what he had been self prescribing in an attempt alleviate his headache pain. Dr. Pessl did a quick physical exam after listening to my husband's symptoms and then told my husband he had altitude sickness/acute mountain sickness. He sent us off with a prescription for the pain and some at home strategies. He gave us his work schedule for the week and in the event the headaches didn't subside, he would want us to return and obtain an order for a head CT. My husband has previously had a stroke and a head CT would be the next step if the headaches didn't subside. We had a great experience and virtually waited 20 minutes in the waiting....which is vastly different from where we live in Florida! If you are on vacation and in the Bozeman area I would recommend Dr. Pessl at Urgent Care Center, next to the Safeway on 19th! I feel much better to have gotten another physician's opinion vs. my physician husband trying to treat himself as altitude sickness is not a common problem when you live at sea level!
