Dr McLean cares about his patients and their well being, he's well past the the to retire but h hasn't because he loves what he does and his patients know that. No question or concern is too silly or small, the phone can at times be tough to get through but I've always succeeded to by the third call and twice I've needed to get in asap, once I was able to see him the same day and the other time it was the next day, as busy of a practice as he has he's got time for you. I even heard of him making house calls to elderly very ill patients, that's caring. I feel lucky to have him and fear the day he retires.

Seems to have a unique system for getting an appointment to see him. His phone is always busy ,and if your able to get through your usually told that the day is full for appointments and he does not make appointments in advance.....WTF......so just keep phoning every morning ( if you can get through ) until you get lucky ------- unless your name is on his preferred list of course !!! Two tier health care !!! Then again, if you actually need timely attention and don't want to play phone lotto every day you can always go to emergency !! What happened to patient entered care ?

On my way in to Ottawa to an appointment, I called my GP's office to ask about getting a flu shot and also about talking to Dr. Ross McLean about this slight tightness of chest I'd had in Europe when under stress a few times. I set off on my road bike the 10 km in to town. I'd used my road bike for errands all summer and had put over 1,600 km on it. Halfway in, the chest tightness started. Years ago, I had read that was a warning sign for a woman's heart attack, even though I certainly didn't have any risk factors: fit, healthy, good diet, 110 pounds at 5' 1” tall. There was no advantage to turning around so I continued. Dr. Ross McLean saved my life. I mentioned it to him and he started to fill out forms to send me to the hospital the next day. He asked how long the tightness lasted, and I said it was still happening. He tore up the forms and said, “Change of plan. You are going to the hospital right now.” No one at Emerg thought there was anything wrong with me, but they immediately did the baby aspirin and blood thinners, measures that meant that I had no heart damage. Ross told me afterward that they all thought he was crazy and he had to insist on things. The EKG was normal. The chest X-ray was normal. Ross ordered a heart enzymes blood test and I was told I'd have to stay there 6 hours. That would have been 11 p.m. and I was a bit annoyed because I was doing a day-long hike in Frontenac Park the next day with retired teacher friends from Carleton Place High School. I felt that I was wasting health care dollars. The rather brittle young Emerg room doctor with the purple hair came in after an hour looking kind, so that was worrisome. She told me my troponin number was .17, that I was having a heart attack, and that I was being admitted to hospital. I was kept overnight at the GWM in Intensive Care. I went to Kingston General Hospital by ambulance Thursday morning, November 6. I happily chatted away with the worker since I was going in, having an angioplasty or possibly stents, back to Perth the same day and probably out the next day to resume my life. Nope. Turned out I had 2 coronary arteries completely blocked and a third 70% blocked. It would have to be open heart bypass surgery, which was scheduled for Monday, November 10. How grateful I am that my family doctor was really on the ball. Thanks to him, I'm going to have many more years to enjoy the life I love!

This is our Family dr. Haven't had any serious health issues but always helpful with the little problems we have here + there with kids etc. It's true, the office is impossible to get on the phone; I quite often end up having to drive to the office to speak to them/book an appointment which is a shame.
Very nice dr though, friendly + interested + staff are homely. We are thankful he is our family Dr.

Dr. McLean is an excellent doctor in all respects. He takes the time to listen and is in no hurry to get you out of the office and is very knowledgeable and helpful. I do not know of any other doctor now a days that puts in the long hours both at his office and Hospital that this man does and also is available for you to call at home. I have waited on a very rare occassion for my appointment however this is a small inconvenience for the quality you receive. This is one doctor that I am not going to let go. He is 5 across the board.

i guess he may be good for some, depending on what your problem is. he had helped me to a certain extent with one or two problems. but for my main health issue, he was no help at all. i think it was an issue of knowledge and motivation. i had to change doctors, and get one in another town, because there is an unwritten rule in this town among the doctors whereby no one will take over anothers patients . but in doing so i was able to solve my problem definitively. his office is very frustrating. never answer the phone. i even attempted communicating via fax for awhile, then just gave up. they probably dont even realize i havent been there for years.
