I saw Dr Book at the hospital. I found him to be submissive and rude. I was in a really bad state at the time, so I know that had a part to play in my opinion. I continued to see him in his office, and he seemed to only talk about himself. He always gave me a chance to speak before this though and I had nothing to say. After a couple of appointments I realized he’s not just talking about himself, he’s seeing how I react and respond. He saved my life.

My sons family Dr sent an urgent referral April 5th 2022. I was given authority and 3rd week in June to speak on my sons behalf and was told by Dr Books office that his health card didn't have the version code so that faxed it back. Couldn't pick up the phone to call our family doctor to confirm the version code for an URGENT REFERRAL. He was on vacation until the 23rd was told to call back on Friday the 24th. My daughter called as I was out of town. Still no answer whether or not Dr Book would even take him. Was told to call back again Monday June 27th. My Dr office called and they were told to resent the referral as they shredded it. Again - it was an URGENT REFERRAL. The end of this tragic tale is Dr Book has no room and recommended a program that is a 20 week waiting list. This could have been relayed back in April is they had have picked up the phone. He is now months behind in help - thanks to the office staff.

I have been to many psychiatrists in my lifetime and I find it is essential to have a connection of some sort with your doctor or it will always end up with a patient feeling defeated. Doctor Book didn't rush me, he didn't instantly hand me a script like other doctors. He took his time, asked me questions and made sure I feel heard. He always asks me if I have any questions before leaving a session. But quite frankly he usually is so thorough that all my questions are answered. I feel heard, I am comfortable being vulnerable and I am confident in the care and monitoring of my mental health in his hands. It took me a long time to be able to see another psychiatrist after previous interactions hadn't gone as I had hoped. I am extremely glad I decided to seek help again and even more grateful I was referred to Dr. Book as my life has seen dramatic improvement since being in his care. Find a doctor that suits you, that you connect with. This is a relationship of sorts and it won't work if you don't like the person you're trying to divulge your life too. Thank you Dr. Book !

Generally good. I always leave the office feeling better than when I went in. I'll be seeing him again.

Wonderful doctor—he is knowledgeable and doesn’t waste your time—or his. I feel he spends enough time talking and listening to me. I never feel rushed and I am having great progress in changing medication that is much more helpful to me.

I am a registered healthcare professional and work directly in mental health. My opinion of him is based on both my experience as his patient, as well as a metal health worker. Dr. Book is extremely knowledgable and well read. His depth of knowledge is quite profound. I was a patient of another psychiatrist for approximately 12 years, but switched to Dr. Book after moving. I was nervous, but I have found his practice to be very supportive. He is personable, is good at creating rapport, and fulfills his role with integrity. He answers any question I have and our sessions are always collaborative. I disagree with many of the negative reviews that I have read on here. Working in psychiatry is not an easy job; the population you deal with are often quite unwell and the experience of both patient and doctor is entirely different than seeking help for a purely medical issue. Dr. Book is fantastic in dealing with personality disorders, which is why I feel there are so many negative reviews. Often times, patients are not willing or ready to accept how they contribute to their own issues and seek to be 'saved' or 'cured' by their doctor. My experience with him has been fantastic and I believe that he provides the care that is needed for patients, though it may not always be what they want.

I met with Dr. Book a few days ago after being referred by my family doctor. I have been diagnosed with anxiety and I was told that I have depression by a walk in clinic doctor, but that diagnosis hasn't been seen as valid. I am also searching for a diagnosis for autism, as I am an adult woman who is almost certain I am on the spectrum. Dr. Book was very kind, but I felt like he dismissed all of my problems due to COVID. When I told him I have had suicidal thoughts throughout the last six years, he blamed it on the pandemic, which doesn't make sense. Despite what I told him, he said that I did not have depression. When discussing autism, I admit that I did not give him the best information, as I was extremely nervous. However, he told me that, due to the fact that I was able to make eye contact with him, that I was clearly not autistic, and I wish that he had given me a better much assessment and asked me questions relative to someone who has high functioning autism. He then spoke of politics for much of the appointment, and I left feeling dismissed, frustrated, and disappointed. Again, he was very kind, but he defimately didn't help me in any way.

I had a terrible experience with this psychiatrist. I was admitted to the adult ward at BGH for one night for suicidal ideation and he told me i had borderline traits but has since refused to do a proper assessment for me and when i go to my monthly appointments to see him he asks me how my week has been and what ive been up to lately and that it. He triggered me into a suicidal episode after a terrible appointment and i stayed at the barett centre crisis house for a week. And when i saw him again after this inpatient stay he didnt get into anythinng with me about my episode and was reluctant to giving me meds let alone a proper diagnoses. You are better off getting help elsewhere this man lacks empathy and care for his patients.
