I've only seen Dr. Chivers once at the Walk-In Clinic. I thought I may have had strep throat. He was very nice and had a amiable personality, but like other raters have posted, he blamed my sore throat on smoking. It is true that he blames smoking on any symptom that could possibly be linked to this habit (sore throat, coughing, etc.) I know this from hearing others in the area complain about the same treatment. My advice to smokers about to see this doctor for any symptom that COULD be related to smoking...go to someone else. Because I guarantee that this is the reason he'll give you for any problems you are or will experience.

This doctor is a menace, prescribing a recklessly high dose of a powerful antibiotic, used for streptococcal pneumonia in hospital situations, for a viral infection which he diagnosed as bronchitis. He gave no more than a 2 minute examination.

This Doctor is awful. If I see his name at the walk in clinic again I am going to walk out. I saw him two weeks in a row at the clinic. The first week was for myself. I had an infection on my arm. He yelled at me to stand up, made fun if my for having a cover over my 2 week old son's car seat, took two minutes to look at my arm and after giving me a disgusted look gave me a script for an antibiotic. When I asked him if it was compatible with breast feeding he said that he thought so. I had to get the pharmisist to look up a better med and get him to change it. Then the next week my first son was in for a fever and he said that it was a double ear infection. He has never had an ear infection in his one ear so I was suspicious. He wouldn't look in his throat because "it didn't matter he was getting an antibiotic anyway" It turned out that 2 days later we were at my docotor's office because he had croup, a viral infection, not an ear infection. Missuse of antibiotics. Horrible.

Dr. Chivers gives me shivers. A strange doc with even a stranger sense of humour. I just needed a presciption for an obvious chest infection and he told me I was a smoker. I'm a physio and have had severe asthma all my life and have never smoked a day :) He also refused to give me a script and ended up admitted to hospital the next day (which I told him would happen)

Because of the lack of Dr.'s ,he went above the call of duty. He's a Family Dr. with Hospital priveleges also delivered babies , The County Coroner , Walk-in Clinic , Norview , Stelco Dr. , ER. Dr. ,and looked after Dr. Winveen's Patients when he was on holidays plus he was involved in the Boy Scouts Organization . I have seen him run out on Patients before also but it's usually an EMERGENCY some place else with more Importance . Yes he had a cut and dry bedside manner but he told you the way it is and I much prefered his no nonsense attitude . He delivered all 4 of my children and we were all sad to see him close his Practice . I always got along great with him and we exchanged good jokes from time to time , he would seek out our hiding children in the Dr.'s rooms as if they were his own grandchildren and make them laugh . Some Nurses didn't care for his directness but he made sure they're on the ball which helps move his patients along but he always took the time if you needed it .

My Grandfather suffered from mid stage alzheimers diease. He took residence in a minimal assistance unit of a LTC facility. Sadley his family MD was replace by DR. Chivers on admission. Grampa enjoyed family visits, outings to Tim Hortons, and joking with the nurses in his faciliy. One day, he suddenly developed projectile vomiting and severe abdomenal pain. The nurses alerted Dr. Chivers to assess him. Unfortunately Dr. Chivers never assesessed my Grandfather. An alzheimers victim, set in his nursing home routine, naturally grampa followed everyone to his usual place in the dining hall despite his illness. Dr. Chivers told the nurses that "if he could attend meals he must be OK". By the 3rd day, my grandfather was so sick he was transfered to Norfolk General with a now in-operable bowel necrosis. If adeqately assessed and treated sooner he could have had a successful surgery. If not for this incompetant Doctor, my grandfather could have had several more happy years of life.

Was misdiagnosed by him three times because of his lack of attention to detail, and his hurried nature.
