Dr Susan E Skanes saved my life. I was misdiagnosed by a new Dermatologist at the George Dumont in June and July 2020 who refused to even do a biopsy. She then told told me that if I wanted the lesion on my eyelid removed I could pay a plastic surgeon. When I got into see Dr Skanes in December 2020 she took one look and told me it was cancer. She did a biopsy the next week and it came back melanoma. It had also spread to my parotid gland by my ear. The next thing I know I am in for cat scan and PET scan and they found a tumor on my kidney. Dr Skanes was like an avenging angel. She arranged for a urologist, Dr Breault to remove my kidney and she took off the Melanoma tumor and most of my lower eye lid. I have had five surgeries in all so far, including the ENT surgeon Dr Allard who removed the parotid gland and the two sets of lymph nodes in two separate surgery. Only the tumor and the gland had cancer in them, both sets of the lymph nodes were clear, to bad they can not put them back in (humor). Dr Skanes got me in to see a new dermatologist Dr E Hayes she removed a few growths that were pre cancerous because she knew what she was doing!!Dr Skanes set me up with an Oncologist Dr Saint Hilaire. Dr Skanes will finish the reconstruction of my eye this Friday June 11th 2021. I am so lucky as it had only spread to the parotid gland. The oncologist has me on IV live cell treatment called Opdivo to kill any microscopic cells, if they are there, and to train my immune system to recognize and kill the cancer in future. People need to realize that she is so full of wisdom and charm and sometimes she is late because she is on call for serious incidents and you know what, if it happens I will read my book and wait. I know she cancelled some procedures the day she and Dr Allard worked on me the first time because they wanted to save my life. To those who had to be rescheduled I say thank you for understanding.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr.Skanes. She was kind and patient with me even though I was terrified and asked a million questions at every meeting. Dr.Skanes performed a breast reduction and an abdominoplasty (?) tummy tuck. I requested a referral to Dr.Skanes on advise from nurses I work with. I don’t think a doctor could get a higher recommendation then from a nurse and she lived up to their recommendations. Approximately a year after the surgery Dr.Skanes fixed a portion of my scar had turned red and swollen. For someone who has had a lot of surgery from this Doctor, my scars are mostly undetectable. In some places you can see a fine perfect line. Very pleased.

I broke my hand 9 months ago. A nurse put me in a cast in the hospital following the instructions of Doctor Skanes (who had not seen my hand, just my X-rays). 2 months later, a nurse took off my cast. Doctor Skanes was 2 hours late. Our one and only meeting lasted 5 minutes. I told her my ring finger was crooked and aching. She told me that I just had to open and close my hand several times a day and everything would be fine. So it's been 7 months. My hand hurts a lot, my ring finger is completely crooked. I can no longer play a musical instrument. I refuse to see this doctor again.

Had a rhinoplasty in September 2016 - Dr Skanes was very patient with my questions and saw me several times beforehand to discuss and ease my concerns.
10 months later I am still not at the final result but would trust her again with any surgeries!

Had a wrist reconstructive surgery in the spring of 2011 and had an unfortunate bad experience with Dr.Skanes. She consistently asked me to remove my bandages which were covering a three inch open wound held semi closed by three staples. Her insistence was so strong that when I refused to do so as I was trying to prevent infection she rudely grabbed them off of me. During all three pre-surgery visits she refused to acknowledge my neurological disorder which I had mentioned that reduces sensation and pain. She ran me through typical procedures with no consideration towards my individual needs and misdiagnosed the damage as a result. Her diagnosis came up as one severed tendon with possible damage to the other two. Our last clinical meeting she told me that she would schedule surgery and call back within 24 hours. After two days I called the clinic and was told she had gone on vacation! Finally after three weeks since the damage was done I managed to secure a surgery date and she preformed it. The actual damage was all three tendons to my thumb were severed as well as a nerve. Due to the length of time I had to wait she had to make an additional incicion to locate and retrieve one tendon that had slid up my arm a full five inches. She then prescribed a medication which she lied about it's effects and I spent $80 on pills that did not reduce inflammation as she said but were strictly pain medication which due to my neurological disorder I did not need. Overall a rude, dismissive, and not very knowledgeable considering she uses strictly diagnostic procedures and refuses to take individual conditions into account.
