In 2012, I was 17 yrs old when I had the unfortunate experience of partially tearing my ACL ligament. To be precise, I stood up from a chair felt something rip in my knee and my knee cap slide forward. I couldn't walk. My dad had to carry me to the car. He took me immediately to my family doctor who ordered an MRI and an urgent referral to Dr. Woolfrey. MRI took 6 months, the referral took 12. When I first saw Dr. Woolfrey, he reviewed my MRI with me and my parents. He advised that I had a partial tare in my ACL ligament and I had torn my meniscus, he recommended a knee scope.

I had my first scope in January of 2014. They cut my muscles . I was advised to use a cane and no crutches. I was in college, I took 5 days off and returned to school, it was extremely difficult. Recovery took 2 months.

6 months after I had the first scope. I had pain inside my knee that went behind my knee. I had an appointment with Dr. Woolfrey, he advised me that I had loose and floating cartilage inside my knee. He suggested we try a Hyaluronic Acid Injection over a 4-week period, they were priced at $1,200.00 my parents didn't have any insurance to cover this treatment and had to pay out of pocket.

The injections didn't work. We waited many months until Dr. Woolfrey suggested we try a Synvic-One Injection, it was priced at $800.00, my parents acquired insurance, covered 80%.

The injection didn't work either. Dr. Woolfrey suggested a Cortisone Injection, he advised they lasted for about 6 months. It was the most painful injection I have ever recieved. I received another Cortisone Injection.

In the summer of 2016, I was walking by myself when I stepped in the divit between the sidewalk and a driveway when I felt something rip in my knee. I immediately called Dr. Woolfrey and was referred to get another MRI. I only had to wait 2 months for the MRI. When I met with Dr. Woolfrey to discuss the results, he advised I tore my meniscus, again and I would require another scope.

I had my 2nd scope in and around December of 2016. I was advised that he had taken out some of my cartilage on the left inside of my knee as it appeared to be defective. Recovery was 3 weeks. 2 weeks after I had recovered. I was experiencing pain in the left inside part of my leg/knee when walking, bending, doing stairs, etc.

Throughout the year of 2017, I received 12 Cortisone Injections.*You're only supposed to receive a maximum of 4 Cortisone Injections per year.* I had another MRI in the August of 2017. Had my follow-up with Dr. Woolfrey in October of 2016, he recommended another scope.

I had my 3rd scope in December of 2018. I requested to be awake for this one. During the surgery, Dr. Woolfrey removed a dime size piece of cartilage down to the bone. I skipped out of the hospital like nothing happened. Recovery was 2 weeks. An additional 2 weeks later, pain was back and worse than ever before.

In 2019, I harassed Dr. Woolfrey's office because they refused to answer my calls, return my calls, or speak to me in person when I would show up. About 3 months later, my dad showed up at the office unannounced and demanded that they schedule me for an appointment. At the appointment, there was a student doctor, who suggested I try a PRP Injection. It was not covered by insurance because it was considered experimental. It was $700.00 per injection. I had it done in both legs. It worked for 4 months in my bad knee.

Unfortunately, the pain came back, worse than anything I have ever experienced. I met with Dr. Woolfrey for the last time. He told me there was nothing more he could do for me. He told me he was going to refer me to a colleague outside of town, to see if there was anything he could do for me.

My orthopedic surgeon in London saved my life.

Dr Woolfreys staff (mainly Diane) has been a going out of the way person to assist patient in all aspects from consultation until sign off from Dr.
I have just had same day knee replacement and cannot say enough of Dr Woolfreys expertise in explaining the whole process in clear concise language and performing operation.
I had hip replacement 3 years ago and have had no issue.
From Drs office to surgery I was treated with great respect. Kudos to all Brantford hospital staff.5 star all around . Highly recommend. Thanks to all.
