WORST Doctor Ever! (I hesitate to call him a Doctor) I had gone to him with a problem with my eye. He came into the room, didn't even say hello, and I told him about my problem. Akena just looked at my face from across his desk and said "I can't see any problem, Come back when you have a problem" He didn't even exam my eye with a light or instrument. This was a Sunday and I was the only patient in the office, it's not as if he was too busy that day. Ticked off, I said nothing and slammed the door to his room. Akena is one person who should not be in the medical field. He does not want to help people. On an aside, my wife was also an ex patient of his and he once said she had a serious blood disorder and laughed while he told her this. She worriedly saw 2 specialists who told her nothing was wrong with her blood. The only reason we were with Akena to begin with is b/c he was the only Dr. accepting patients. Now he has 2 more free spots. Do not let this person care for your health.

I went to the walk in for pink eye. He did not even look at my eye before he diagnosed me on my first sentence! I have flu like symptoms and he clearly did not want to hear any of it. I informed him that my sister has been mis-diagnosed by a doctor in the clinic before and it has caused severe damage to her eye. He then took a whole five minutes to check my throat and actually look at my eye. This guy may have graduated but he showed me he does not care about helping people at all and is perfectly content sitting at a desk doing nothing.

I would not refer to Mr. Akena as a doctor as he simply does not care about his patients. I recently accompanied my mother to his office to get the results from a mammogram. Akena is not my mother's regular physician, but she went to him when she found a lump in her breast while her doctor was away. He came into the room, sat staring at his computer, and after 1 minute blurted out "You have breast cancer". I waited for him to explain, but nothing more was said. I had to pry out information from him as to the size, what comes next, etc. He said he was referring my mother to the Breast Clinic but refused to give out the details such as the location and phone number. He simply would repeat "They call you". He was to fax this referral right away, but two days later, it was still sitting on his desk. The staff in the reception area are all rude, especially Faith. I would never recommend anyone to seek medical information of any kind from this individual.

My daughter was having a lot of pain in her ears one night that the next day I took her to the walk in. Dr Akena said that she had an ear infection and prescribed amoxicillin. After doing that course of meds my daughter was still having issues and started to loose her hearing in that ear. I took her back and dr. Akena said that the amoxicillin didnt' work so prescribed arythromyacin. Did that for a week and then when things didn't work he then put her on Zythromax. I said I would like to see an ENT and he said if this didn't work that he would send her, but you could tell he really wasn't happy to do so.When this didn't work I went to another clinic, I had explained what was going on and the assist. on the phone said to bring her in asap cause that's way too many meds for a little one. Well this Dr. sent her to a specialist - She never had an ear infection, just fluid that wouldnt drain. She's still waiting to get the tubes put in, but I wonder if there is any damage from the meds

This doctor is a very unknoledgeable, rude ,undiagnosing brush off poor excuse for a doctor. I went in August with a very sore wrist as a rusult of an injury, this doctor actually laughed at me and said it was just a sprain and it will get better on it's own, I knew it was very hurt and to this day still really hurts when I lift any thing with a bit of weight to it. Just the other day I went to him with a sore throat and my tonsils were very swollen that a child could have told me I had an infection, he took my temprature forced the read out on the thermometer into my face and said see you don't have a fever so you don't have an infection, I proced to try and tell him I've had to take Advil for the past week in order to swollow, and he told me there's nothing and he can't see any thing, a week latter I went to a different doctor and my tonsils were so infected that I needed a double prescription. I have decided to report this doctor to Manitoba Health.

My girlfriend went to him with a sinus infection. Prescribed inappropriate meds (stuff for allergies). She ended up with an impacted sinus and then the hospital. I went to him with what I thought was strep throat, told me it was nothing.I told him it's a big deal b/c I will be in France for a month and away from convenient health care. I ended up sick for two months and after seeing my main family doctor - 3 rounds of meds for STREP THROAT. My friend went to see him with an obvious broken foot. He told him to go home and he would be fine in a few days. He went to Pan Am with the xrays and they casted him. He ended up with surgery for two separate breaks and 8 weeks of recovery. Do not see this guy!!!

He seems like a stranger in a strange land. He doesn't communicate well, but does take time to listen if you stick to the nature of your problem. He gave me trouble when I needed sick notes for work, but when I pointed out that his diagnosis deemed me unfit for work, he angrily wrote out the sick note and took it to the front desk. The waiting room is a sardine can. Don't go w/o an appointment.

Dr. Akena has always very polite. He has always listened, done proper testing for my complaints, and when in doubt has referred me to a Specialist. I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Akena. I never have to wait to long when booking an appointment. Faith at the front desk is also very helpful.
