In a time when our health care system is being stretched to the limits, as a health care worker, I am sad to see our family doctor retire. Dr. Dale McElwain has provided his service to our community for over 50 years. Our family has been very blessed to have a dr that is caring, professional, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile for us. Over the years if anyone of us needed to see a specialist he was very prompt in getting the paperwork done and sent of. He always found the time to see his patients as well as ER overflow patients on short notice which will be one of the many things that I will miss about his office. Many of my co-workers have had the privilege of his service (and much appreciated) over the years when they were unable to see their own doctors. He was always on time for our appointments and looked after all our needs in a timely fashion. I am happy for Dr MacElwain but sad for all of us that are without a dr now. Enjoy your retirement years.

Was my family Dr for many years. My last visit was the worst, he asked me several questions and when I tried to answer I was talked over and sassed for interrupting. Chooses to send people to specialists instead of knowing anything himself. If you're just looking for a quick referral to a specialist to be covered under medicare, it's great. But if you want a family dr who listens to you and actually cares, look elsewhere. Secretary is very sweet and kind, but he is very rude and doesn't like dealing with patients. You can sometimes get in the same day you see him, but it's not surprising since he barely talks to any patient longer than 5 minutes.

I think he is wonderful. He doesn't waste your time he has seen these illnesses sooo many times he doesn't have to ask redundant questions. He saves you lots of money by giving samples to you. I wish more doctors were like this doctor. He doesn't beat around the bush he is straight up.

The worst bedside manor I ever encountered. I had called what so thought was his office and spoke with the secretary. I was looking for the heart specialist and his name was the first to come up in my Google search. There was a great deal of confusion about my appointment but she said she remebered me and that i was booked and would get back to me.

Nope. I got a call from the doc himself who was first highly annoyed that he got my machine. (I was on my way home from work) When I called him back he was out right rude and not welcoming in the slightest. He seemed put out that he had to call. A long back and forth and I finally find out that he is not the heart specialist. I apologized for the mistake and he simply huffed and hung up.

Just like everyone has said already, doesnt listen, talks over you, doesnt care even the slightest. Told me to only come in for a cold or if I need pills refilled. Terrible doctor.

I am not even sure I spent a whole two minutes with him during my appointment. I mentioned that I likely had a condition that is essentially a death sentence and he did not even comment on it. In fact, he left the room without another word and refused to even listen to my symptoms simply because I was there for a referral. In fact, the only reason I knew the appointment was over because he walked into the next room and began "treating" another patient. If you have a serious condition do not take this doctor, he is only in it for the money.

I was referred to this doctor by a friend because of how easy it is to see him (my family doctor is difficult to see in short notice) however this doctor in my opinion was an ignorant her. My 2 month old baby had a full body of hives. Dr Macelwain looked at him briefly said it was an alergic reaction to something, interrupted me every time I opened my mouth and simply wrote a prescription for some cream and sent me on my way. He didnt check his vitals, his weight, or even his temperature. I was in tears leaving because I felt no better about what was causing this rash and he saw me crying and showed no empathy what soever. I left his office and headed straight to emergency. There I was greeted by the triage nurse who checked all his vitals, weight etc and showed genuine concern for both him and myself. The doctor we saw in emerg was also much more helpful and although she gave me the same prognosis I left feeling entirely different.

His bedside manner is Terrible I wouldn't reccomend him to anyone. Especially not first time mothers who are concerned for their child's well being because he doesn't put your mind at ease whatsoever.

This Dr almost cost me my life...did not bother doing a chest xray when I came in severly sick...prescribed me penecilin, which almost killed me (found out my allergies then). Had to be taken by ambulance to F'ton where I spent 12 nights with severe pneumonia and came very close to death. The Drs could not BELEIVE he didn't bother to exam me whatsoever...now if he is on call, I will walk out and drive clear to F'ton.
