When trying to set up an appointment with Dr. Helen Bumpus the staff was rude and treated me terrible. When called to cancel the appointment the staff hung the phone up as I was in mid sentence. In my opinion this is an over view of Dr. Bumpus as well. Not a very nice person and should not be treating our children. Dr. Bumpus and her staff treat our children as money making items only. Not as patiences. I will never take my children to this doctor again.

Dr.Helen Bumpus almost killed my son because she refused to listen to me or the lactation consultant at Jane Phillips about his cough. She prescribed benedryl to my 2 week old until he lost enough weight for her to hospitalize him. Two days after being hospitalized she finally ordered a barium swallow and the technician asked me how long my 5 week old had had pnuemonia. After that he told me not to feed the baby again until we heard from the doctor, that was 7am - we didn't hear from until 6pm when she told us they were transferring us to St.John's PICU. My son had been drowning every time he ate that's why he was coughing - he could have died in my arms because she wouldn't listen. We gave her a second chance and she refused to have anything to do with his Mic-Key button and his nutrition so we changed doctors finally. The new doctor's office found no record of her tests or prescribing benedryl for my child. Don't use this woman.

My children have been seeing Dr. Bumpus for 5 years. Her nurse has long fingernails and had trouble giving vaccinations which are stressful anyway. We usually have to wait til the following day for an appointment and then have to wait a least 40 minutes when we come in. The last straw was when we went out of town to Arkansas. My youngest is 3 years old and we were out of town when he started coughing and running a fever...which from past history we suspected an ear infection. When she called me back, she would NOT call in antibiotics and said it's probably viral. When i told her that we couldn't find a doctor out of town to see him on such short notice she suggested we go to the ER. I told her we couldn't afford the $500 ER fee from insurance and she said, 'oh, well, must not be bad enough then'. When we got back home, we changed doctors.

Dr Bumpus is not thorough. She misdiagnosed my son, after not testing, she just treated the problem she thought it was by prescribing antibiotics. She was extremely rude when paged due to an emergency. My son ended up in the ER, then transferred to St Francis Children's Hospital for an emergency surgery then 4 days in the hospital.
