Dr. Markow is yet another prescription happy psychiatrist who dispenses cocktails of psychotropic drugs based on scant evidence of efficacy and snap diagnoses. He does not accept insurance of any kind, and miraculously diagnoses complex disorders in one short office business. Based on one interview, he diagnosed me with something "on the bipolar spectrum" (mild bipolar is the diagnosis du jour in fashionable circles), something that a half dozen or so other docs I saw periodically for anxiety over a span of two decades never mentioned as even a remote possibility. I then went the trial-and-error pharma route for two months with him, during which he prescribed various rounds of ever more potent and debilitating mood stabilizers and antidepressants. Even in my psych med induced haze, I could see that this was not the answer. So I went to a GP, transitioned off of all the various poisons I was being administered, started cognitive-behavioral therapy, a rigorous exercise program, meditation, and most important of all, got a job (I had lost it during the height of the great recession, and not surprisingly, was severely depressed by my circumstances). Fast forward two years and I feel great, with no sign of unipolar depression, and most certainly no hint of oscillation into hypomania. Dr. Markow is a pleasant fellow, but like so many psychiatrists, has devolved into a mere pill pusher. My suggestion is to see a psychologist first--they are the real diagnosticians--and only if that fails (and with the psychologist's diagnosis in hand) should you consider the crazy meds that psychiatrists hand out like candy. And insist that they perform evidence-based medicine, using drugs that have shown a clear benefit for your condition in high quality, peer reviewed, double-blind studies.

I have only seen Dr. Markow for a few times, but I have found him to be very knowledgeable and helpful to me. One of the drawbacks is getting a hold of him on the phone. I have had problems with him returning my phone calls. He does not have an office staff.
