We had a less than satisfactory experience with Dr Lesser several years ago. He jumps to conclusions before knowing the whole story. He is unavailable for critical need and charges an arm and a leg for questionable therapy. I do have to say that the best advice he gave me consisted of the revelation that there was no cure for severe mental illness, just a lifelong attempt to control the symptoms. I consider the year or so we took my daughter to him as lost time that started us down a bad path. Missed opportunities etc. She is now a total wreck and could have been helped by someone that understood complex neuropsychiatry. Instead we got false hope and a wasted life.

Dr Michael Lesser is the best doctor in this field. We could not find any Doctor in New York, where we live, to help us the way he did. Through his very broad knowledge, in the field of Mental Health, he has corrected the root problem of an illness, which could have potentially been a very devastating illness. I am very surprised other Psychiatrists have not tapped into the area Dr Lesser has so succesfully made known. Thank you Dr Lesser, we love you!!!

Big waste of money, and he was on vacation an awful lot. After seeing him for a year, he told me I looked "pale and unhealthy". He did not help me one bit, and he was extremely expensive!

Very helpful and insightful for difficult cases. Great knowledge of nutritional psychiatry. Fees are remarkably reasonably considering the dr.s knowledge, experience and qualifications.

I gave up on Dr. Lesser. He was either late, didn't show or looked loaded when I took my son to his appointments. It has been some years now but I spent a lot of money traveling, on supplements, and his fees. It was very disappointing. He didn't help my son at all and on one of the last visits he said well maybe your son just needs some lithium. Its just a mineral anyway. I went to him to get my son away from people who try to push drugs. I never went back.

I went to Michael Lesser some years back. He was very, very expensive, difficult to reach for making/changing appointments, no office staff, and not especially supportive. He put me on a fast, which created some horrible symptoms, and then was unavailable when I had concerns; he just left me to deal with it. He seemed uninterested in my situation. I also took lots of expensive supplements, which did not help. After I saw him for a year or so, he looked at me one day and said "you don't look well, you are too pale, and you are not progressing". I had tried so hard to work with his therapy!!!That was my last appointment.I came away from my experience with him much, much poorer, frustrated and bitter. It took me a long time to get over it.

Dr. Lesser was disorganized, unprofessional, and unable to maintain his focus. He was only midly interested in treating me but very interested in payment. He took calls from other patients throughout my entire appointment, with no regard for my time and suggested that he "gave me a break" because he took a fraction of the time he spent on the phone off my total charges (yet still charged for nearly twenty minutes of his phone time). He doesn't perform a standard medical health history; instead he's more interested in a patient's personality and charature, which he uses as a diagnostic tool. (Read his book for details.) He basically recomended the same prescription that he does to most: A low glyceminc diet, a host of costly supplements that he very aggreesively sells (some of which had no label) and expensive tests usually not covered by insurance. That said, he seems to have some insight into biochemical imbalances and behavior.

Bravo to Dr. Lesser. After going through the perils of the typical psychiatric system, I credit Dr. Lesser with saving my life -- and my sanity. My appointments with him were always very long, and he took the time to get to know me, my history, and the way my mind worked. Dr. Lesser practices orthomolecular psychiatry. He uses minimal amounts of medication, and helps "mental illness" by means of nutrtion. He did bloodwork and saw that I was deficient in iron and zinc. I learned that I am also hypoglycemic. Those ailments were what was causing my said mental illness. Other psychiatrists did not even bother ruling out physical problems before doping me up on horrid psychiatric drugs. A caring person, and a knowledgable doctor with unconventional, yet highly successful treatments...see Dr. Lesser before wasting your time on other psychiatrists.
