Most useless doctor in amherstburg. A shame we went from Dr.D to this useless individual. Don’t waste your time with this one. He won’t last long in amherstburg

Just reading some of the reviews on here. Some people need to get their facts straight. Dr. Coates (JR), has never been away from his practice for 4 months. Whomever wrote this, must be referring to his brother David, who was off for medical reasons a few years back. In any case, JR is one of the hardest working Doctors I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His knowledge is superlative and current. He is brilliant! When caring for his patients, he doesn't just throw a prescription at you...He does in-depth assessments, researches, and gets to the root of the problem, in order to find the best way to help you. Perhaps this accounts for his tardiness and computer use during patients' visits. I'm sorry to read some of the unfavorable reviews on here, as I have never encountered a more compassionate, attentive, hard-working Doctor, with a very uplifting, easy-going bedside manner...And will certainly be recommending him, to everybody I can.

This guy is a joke. They tell you when you call to become a patient that he won't prescribe narcotics which is fine, but I see why. He's taking them all himself. Very spacy, poor bedside manner and leaves his practice unattended for 4months and thinks that's ok. This guy is a disgrace to the medical community

I have been with Dr. Coates since he came to Amherstburg. He took care of my father when he had his cancer. My daughter is 26 years old and has had many health issues. He has always been there for all of us during these difficult times. To me even if you are a wife of a doctor there are times you will have to wait in the waiting room. I know he has a heart of gold and will take his time with you if you need it. He is always there for his patients he works long hours just because his hours end in the office doesn't mean his day is done. If more doctors had his compassion I think we would have happier patients. If he can't find out what is wrong he will find someone who can. Dr. Coates is #1 in my book. As for his staff they do there best and sometimes it isn't what we like to hear regarding appointments but they are just doing their job.

I went in with my father to get an update on his health. And didnt know what to expect. I was very impressed. The office was clean, the receptionist very friendly and the wait was minimal. Dr Coates was very informative and helpful. He explained in detail my fathers file and was compassionate and professional the entire visit. He never rushed us and answered our questions throughly.

Oh my goodness, finally someone else understands my experience with this Dr.! I too find his sense of humor totally bizarre and too intimate for a patient/doctor relationship. My teenage daughter was seeing him for a soccer related injury and the way he flirted/teased her made me (a woman who speaks up when faced with innapropriate behavior) question him aloud on his professionalism. My daughter and I were NOT impressed to say the least! And his skill does not make up for his behavior because at the end of the visit he had yet to determine that it was a simple sprain! He was much too busy playing on his iPhone once he realized that I would not allow him to waste our time socializing instead of examining my daughter's ankle. His staff is quite friendly, which is the only positive thing I have to say about the experience!

This doctor is ALWAYS late and is not worth the wait! As someone that is married to a doctor, my husband often accompanies me to appointments, and has noticed that his knowledge of medicine is not up to date. He does not review results within a timely manner, and his examination room is scattered with clutter and open patient files. I am very worried that one day my file will be open while someone else is there and able to read/see it. I am debating discontinuing my visits there. I feel uncomfortable in the environment and I find his sense of humour bordering on innapropriate. Not sure how others weigh in on this matter, but this was my experience and I feel that these low ratings are justified.
