All 4 of my kids have seen Dr. F. since birth, wouldn't even consider another pediatrician. We've followed him from Chicopee to Westfield back to Chicopee. He always takes time to explain things to the boys and to me; answers all questions that any of us have. He has dealt with some very difficult topics (drug/steroid use) very proactively and ordered tests to put our minds at ease. And once upon a time when we were very young and dirt floor poor without insurance and didn't qualify for any kind of assistance and couldn't afford the cost of a doctor's appointment, Dr. Franczyk called me at home to find out why we had cancelled our appointment and not rescheduled. When I told him that I couldn't afford it, he scheduled me for that afternoon and told me not to worry about the cost. He was the one who pushed to get the centers to not turn patients away for innoculations because of their inability to pay. He is an outstanding practitioner and a wonderful human being.

I disagree with the rating left on 3/4/09. Dr. Franczyk is a pediatrician. That means if his patient who is a minor reveals she is sexually active and her parents are paying the health insurance premiums then he can reveal this to the parents because they have access to those records. This doesn’t violate HIPAA laws. If someone is 18 or over then she is free to get a job, pay her own insurance premiums and seal her medical records. See www.privacy.med.miami.edu/glossary/ xd_minors.htm: "state laws which specifically address disclosure of health information about a minor to a parent/personal representative preempt HIPAA …" Dr. Franczyk is a wonderful doctor. We will continue to see him until my kids are grown. And for the record I would want to know if our kids were having sex or using drugs, and if our kids don’t like it, tough—let them get their own job and insurance! What I have observed over the years is that kids want all the privileges of adulthood but none of the responsibility.

Unfortunately we found Dr. Franczyk to be arrogant with a poor bedside manner. He definitely broke doctor patient confidentiality with a very sensitive subject. He took it upon himself to inform my girlfriend's parents of our sexual activity, something no doctor should do.
