Dr Emory is truly a miracle worker and he helped me so much when countless other doctors failed. I had a host of chronic health issues that went undiagnosed for years that resulted in 7 years of crippling insomnia where I never slept. I saw so many doctors and they tried every sleeping medicine. If it didn't work they added a new one and/or upped the dose. By the time I saw Dr Emory I was on 5 different medicines, some to put me asleep and some to wake me up in the morning and was living an unsuccessfully medicated cycle. Dr Emory truly opened my eyes to a whole new way of looking at my sleep. While everyone had put me on medications to down regulate my system so I could sleep (which sleep never actually happened) Dr Emory looked at me in a whole new way and was the first person to ever point out the real issue was my body was never becoming alert enough during the day rather than the other way around. After one visit he changed my sleep which greatly improved my life and he continues to do so to this day. I truly hope that the medical and psychiatric community catch up to his analysis and method of thinking about the brain and body-- we could help so many more people.

Dr. Emory changed my life, and saved my business, by giving me the right treatment. He took me off of a prescription that would have ultimately hurt my relationships and performance in the business world, and he got it right. Other, highly reputed doctors insisted, based on “empirical data,” that the treatments they had previously given me were right, even though the medicine’s side effects were destroying everything I had worked toward. The only concern I have about Doctor Emory’s treatment style is that not enough people in field of neuropsychiatry (perhaps no one) does what he does. And it’s a shame. His approach, which is based upon looking at an individual’s brainwave data, and using it to determine which pharmaceutical or non-pharmaceutical treatment to dole out, makes so much more sense than the more common approach of throwing different treatments at a person, based upon their stated symptoms, without looking at their individual data. What’s right for one person’s brain, may not be right for another person’s brain. And, being given the wrong meds is too common a problem in today's world; I have seen it first hand in myself, and in folks that I know. His decades of experience reading EEG data allows him to narrow things down and get it right, much faster. Although his fees may appear higher, at first, his approach saved me tens of thousands of dollars that I would have spent dealing with problems from the wrong medicine. I wish more people understood how they could benefit from his way of treating people. If you are reading this because you are considering embracing his approach, I wholeheartedly say, “Go for it."

I went to Hamlin Emory for help with my insomnia and my experience with him was mixed. I found him very personal and good at making a quick connection to build trust in his technical knowledge. He seemed to truly care about improving the lives of his patients, which showed in his bedside manner.

My primary issue with him is that his technical knowledge seemed out of date, most notably around the genetic influences on disease. In my experience, t he had a single "modern" diagnostic tool (the qEEG) coupled with traditional psychiatric clinical evaluation. He also showed only a limited, traditional "quiver" of pharmaceutical interventions, for which he did not seem to fully understand their biochemistry.

He was not familiar with the breadth of SNPs / genomic factors that can provide deeper insight into clinical disease states. He had never reviewed 23&me or Ancestry.com data nor maintained current knowledge of that field. Further, he tried to solve a problem that he found on his qEEG with traditional SSRI / SNSI inhibitors, SAMe, and Deplin that made my insomnia worse (he did not listen to my primary insomnia complaint but tried to solve something else). These interventions did not work for me.

I recommend that prospective patients understand that he doesn't have all the answers even if you are confused by his quick talk about the technical data he derives from his qEEG studies. I instead recommend that you supplement your interactions with Dr. Emory with a review of https://www.drbenlynch.com/ or https://www.geneticlifehacks.com/.

In conclusion, I found Dr. Emory personable but his genomic knowledge out-of-date. I'm glad that he helped others but he didn't help me.

Edward G. Brown, Co-Founder/President/Co-Chairman, Cohen Brown Management Group, Critical Assessment of His Psychopharmacologist, Dr. Hamlin Emory

Any patient who accepts an oppressive bedside manner as an unavoidable manifestation of a medical practice has not met Dr. Hamlin Emory, his marvelous bedside manner and his clinical team.

What is it that differentiates Dr. Emory from all others in his space (psychopharmacology and physician care in general):

1. Science
a. Symptoms > Neurophysiologic Diagnosis > Individualized Treatment to Improve Each Person’s Brain and Bodily Physiology
b. Immense recognition for proving that medicine is not just science, but rather an art form as well
c. “Primum, non nocere.” – Above all, do no harm.”
d. Dr. Emory’s comprehensive approach transcends the psychiatric approach, which is just guessing.

2. Since I taught Communication Arts and Skills as an international consultant for the financial services industry for 46 years, I can proclaim that Dr. Emory, in my opinion, has a black belt in Communication Arts and Skills. His patients, like me, understand the reasons for each step in his personalized treatment plan.

Dr. Emory's innovative approach to your health is unique; it cannot be categorized into one field of medicine. It upends the age-old doctrine in medicine of 1) diagnosis, then 2) treatment.

For this reason, there doesn't have to be anything "wrong" with you to see Dr. Emory. Dr. Emory will work with you, whether you are suffering from debilitating depression, substance abuse, or even mild anxiety.

When I first saw Dr. Emory, I had been battling chronic anxiety and insomnia for most of my adult life. Naturally, my quality of life suffered to say the least (I won't go into the morbid details).

Fast-forward one year, Dr. Emory has unleashed the potential in me that the anxiety had been holding back for over a decade. I discovered athletic abilities I never knew I had and unbound creativity. I feel happier, lighter (literally, 80 pounds lighter!), and younger. Like 15 years younger. I literally get carded at restaurants when I order a glass of wine (and I'm 35!).

Most importantly, I am healthier - body, soul, and mind. My productivity has skyrocketed, empathy for others deepened, and love of life renewed.

To sum it up: there doesn't need to be anything "wrong" with you to see Dr. Emory. Think of it as a "tune-up." Don't we take care of our bodies, cars, belongings, and jobs? What are we doing to take care of our brains? If you're drawing a blank, that's okay. Make an appointment with Dr. Emory. He will do that part for you. You can gain what you never even thought was possible. What have you got to lose?

I have been a patient of Dr. Emory for over a year now and I can honestly say that he has positively changed my life. Coming from an experience where I was emersed in psychiatry, I realized most of my treatments were based on guess-work since I was being diagnosed purely based on what I was saying my issues were. When seeing Dr. Emory, conducting the EEG enabled me to physically see the deficiencies in my brain activity and diagnosed accordingly. This gave me peace of mind and shed light on other deficiencies I had that I had not even realized. Throughout my treatment, my previous issues are seemingly non-existent and many other facets of my life have soared since I no longer have any of those mental limitations.

Written on Yelp on 3/25/2019:

Dr. Emory has changed my life. Since becoming a patient of his a couple months ago I have never felt better. I can't believe it took me 29 years to realize that it was possible to feel THIS good. I feel normal, present, balanced, focused and happy. My happiness is unwavering...something I've never experienced before until now.

A little background...I was diagnosed bipolar and ADHD at a young age. It wasn't surprising considering I was impulsive, manic, depressed, suicidal, irrational, and unpredictable. Most of my life has been hell. I've gone through intense phases of mood fluctuations where I've cried EVERY night for weeks until I'd suddenly stop, and feel invincible for a few more weeks. I've had issues with focus, issues making clear/healthy decisions, trouble speaking concisely/succinctly, maintaining my happiness, etc. I've been prone to sleep/eating binges and experienced violent thoughts and episodes where I wanted to hurt myself and others. I've seen countless "experts", been on and off different medications, and tried talking through my issues, but little seemed to help.

As soon as Dr. Emory performed an EEG and switched my medication, everything changed. All those issues disappeared and I felt control over my life with limited side effect. He says "you can't medicate a concept" which I now understand. All these years I've been seeing psychiatrists who listen to my problems and try to determine what they think is wrong based off their individual, contextual understanding of mental health which can be limited. Dr. Emory is different. He pinpoints the issue with hard facts and data then determines the right medication to correct the numbers. This process of diagnosing mental health is why he's successful. It's not just a guess... it's a measure, calculated analysis. Dr. Emory is a miracle worker. There is no better way to describe this man.

Side note: The only critique I have is that he can be hard to talk to and understand and sometimes I leave the office feeling unclear about instructions. You must make sure you are clear about the next steps before leaving. I'm still giving him 5 stars because this is a minor inconvenience in comparison to the unbelievably profound impact he's had on my life.

...continued on 05/17/19

I am still a patient of Dr. Emory and we have to continued to develop a mutually deep and enjoyable connection. Since my comment above, we have nailed down a balanced cocktail of medications to greatly reduce my issues with mental health. This includes optimizing my sharpness and focus, enhancing my emotional discipline, helping me to keep better sleeping habits and create/stay connected to tangible goals. We've also significantly lessened my prior impulsive behavior, and I'm able to focus on my goals and passions. I'm less stressed, more logical, and generally more in control of my life. Dr. Emory has metaphorically pulled my out of mud (mental illness) I'd been stuck in my whole life and has allowed me the freedom of movement. Everything he's done has been amazing and I am deeply grateful that I discovered this brilliant man and his humble, friendly office amidst my prior mental heath crisis! That is all for now! Bye!

Dr. Emory may have saved my wife's life! On our first meeting he made a thorough review of the medicines she'd been assigned by literally dozens of others for the last 25 years and immediately recognized them as completely wrong and useless! Indeed, others who represented themselves as "qualified" physicians could never identify her real problem because, as Dr. Emory pointed out, they had all been 'guessing' at both diagnosis and treatments - ALL of which were wrong! Dr. Emory performed an EEG and discovered my wife is not bi-polar or in need of anti-depression sedatives at all. Instead, he changed her medicine and brought her back from depression and suicidal thoughts to being the amazing and wonderful woman I married 30 years ago! He actually ended her suffering in less than 3 months and now she's back! It's horrible that others would rather mis-diagnose than seek empirical information to identify the real problem and solve it with treatment that is appropriate. As he states, "depression is not a scientific or medical term - and it is no substitute for valid medical intervention." Mis-medicating and suppressing such feelings is neither a cure nor an honorable medical practice and they robbed both of us of years of happiness and joie de vivre. BRAVO, Dr. Emory - and Thank you forever for bringing life back to my wife - and bringing her back to me!

Dr. Emory and his team exceeded all my expectations. After initially meeting with him for an anxiety-related event Dr. Emory performed an EEG that showed I was taking the wrong medication. I noticed an immediate improvement after switching prescriptions. With greater mental clarity I was more receptive to counseling and felt an enhanced sense of calmness in everyday life. In every interaction Dr. Emory and his team showed great attention, care, and professionalism. I consider myself fortunate to have had the expertise of Dr. Emory and his team through my recovery process.
