April 8, I slipped on ice and landed on my outstretched hand. The mandatory trip to the Health Science Centre was dreaded. However the entire experience was efficient, professional and compassionate. Dr Doug Baggs was the ER physician attending. He was knowledgeable and proficient. I highly recommend Dr Baggs and his team. The experience defied by expectations. My treatment was excellent. Thank you all so much!

My husband and I went to the ER at the HSC because I was having severe abdominal pain. We waited 8.5 hours to see Dr. Baggs, but he was very thorough in his examinations and testing, and explained everything to my husband and I. He is a bit "rough around the edges", but with regards to his knowledge and expertise, we found him to be excellent! I didn't expect a sympathetic Dr, I just wanted to know why I was having pain, and what needed to be done to treat it. Dr. Baggs was quite polite to my husband and I, but seemed a bit frustrated for some reason (most likely overworked).

Doug Baggs is an Amazing Doctor. I have known this man for many years and he has always been respectful, and thorough. He treats his patients with respect and he may come across as rude, but, honestly he isn't. If you are going to see a doctor for a prescription or because you have a cut on your finger then you should not be going to the ER you need to go see your family doctor. These doctors are there for emergencies. I have been in and out of there for the last couple of years many admissions to hospital and I have to say that out of all my visits to the ER Doug Baggs is Top Notch and he is the best. If I was ever in an accident this is the doctor I would want working on me.

The man is AMAZING! For everyone giving him poor reviews may you be reminded this man is an Emergency Room Physician, and he is the BEST! If you're looking for someone to babysit you he's not the man for the job, however, if you're looking for the best for you or your love ones, then the buck stops with Dr. Baggs. You will not find anyone more knowledgable or experienced in the Emergency Depts. of Eastern Canada!

Went to St. Clare's first, with lower back injury. Left in tears after 2.5 hrs waiting, sitting up, not seen and not offered a place to rest, as sitting up was very painful. Went to Health Sciences Centre emergency later that day, registered, was told I'd be put thru fast track. Was brought to a bed to lie down, as they could see I was in severe pain. Dr. Braggs and the nurses were fabulous. Prompt, helpful service and advice, and I was in and out of emergency in less than 3 hours, and that includes getting x-rays. Thankfully I did not have any bones broken. My GP had ordered a CT Scan which had not even been scheduled yet, and Dr. Braggs ensured it was scheduled within a week of my visit to ER. Good follow-up.

Very poor bedside manner. Never experienced such rudeness before. Made comment "that I must have rocks in my head".

I have had the privledge of being a pt of Dr. Baggs in the past @ the HSC ER. He is very competent and prob the best ER Doctor I have encountered. To the people who have rated Dr. Baggs services low on the scale, obviously has a bad interpretation of what an ER Doctors job is supposed to be. Hes not there to write Pain Med Rx to whoever walks in the doors requesting them. He's also not there to treat colds and hang nails, he is an EMERGENCY ROOM PHYSICIAN. Not a Family Doctor. Have some respect. Dr. Baggs is #1.

I went through medical school in St. John's and worked with countless doctors in the system. If I were to ever need emergency services, I would pray that it would be Doug Baggs over ANYONE else! And I'm not alone - every medical professional I know has nothing but the utmost respect for him and his skills. So for those of you who are complaining because he doesn't pat your hand and empathize enough, go see your family doctors. He is an Emergency Room physician - trained to save lives - and he is the best in his field, PERIOD. Most ER docs in this province are GP's who are working in emerg which may be why people are used to a more "touchy-feely" approach in the ER here. But Doug Baggs has complete Emergency Medicine specialty training and we need more like him. Unfortunately, we are losing him for at least a year. We should all hope he returns... you have no idea how many people are still walking around because of him. Think twice before you post these kind of remarks.

This guy has probably the toughest doc job in NL and has seen some tough things over his years, surprised he isn't jaded or burnt out. That said, his skills as a captain of the HSC ER are *bar none*. I feel there is no difference between what he offers patients and what he is able to offer. Genuinely concerned about everyone getting home alive. If I arrived in HSC on a stretcher, I know I would be getting out still alive and in the best shape possible.

This doctor should never be allowed to work in emergency. He doesn't really listen to his patients - enough said!
