Not having gone to doctor's almost my whole life I reached middle age without having a good measure of how a pcp should treat a patient and all of that. Dr. Cohen failed me terribly and rudely in the year that i visited numerous times by failing to diagnose what I repeatedly brought up as a concern because of horrible symptoms, family history and related conditions. I even wrote down and requested specific type 1 diabetes tests which she refused and told me it may not be covered, and then that I should have my thyroid surgery first as thyroid issues can be similar to diabetes symptoms. I finally went to a different pcp who agreed to send out for the tests right away and I have adult onset type 1. I could have saved over a year of stress of not knowing any modifying my lifestyle to maintain my health but instead since dr. cohen chose to neglect my care on so many levels, so my condition could have gotten worse if I had gone to dr who acts like a doctor should from the beginning. Terribly disheartening to have experienced this from a recommended doctor.

she refused to administer type 1 diabetes antibody test and other type one tests that I had been requesting to her office for a year but told me because of my a1c that i am fine and told me the type 1 test may not be covered, and to have my thyroid surgery first because it may mimic diabetes symptoms. I have myriad diabetes symptoms and related autoimmune diseases which she very well knows. She was rude to me and told me all my bloodwork was fine when it showed decreased liver function for my presurgical tests. Finally i went to another pcp who said ok right away to type 1 antibody test, c-peptide, and etc. and all the markers are there for adult onset type 1 diabetes. She made me sicker in this past year I wasted going to her and was mean to me meanwhile. Is this not the opposite of what an MD's job is? (To listen and to treat.) I can deal with health issues but i had a much harder time with the betrayal by a healthcare practitioner who refused to help me.
