RUN! Dr. Duerksen not only lacks compassion and overall knowledge, he will withhold medical information and falsify medical records to support his “theory” and/or “diagnosis”. It is very evident that he doesn’t recognize any GI problem outside of IBD or colon cancer. If you don’t fall under one of the two categories, he will give you an IBS diagnosis and tell you to get psychological help. He stole 4 years of my life, trying to convince me I was crazy. Turns out, I had severe bowel endometriosis, ended up with an ostomy and hysterectomy before 30. I completely understand not all doctors are informed about certain medical conditions and can miss things. However, Dr. Duerksen did not care about my quality of life nor my physical well-being and was a complete barrier to acquiring additional help. I’ve seen many doctors since him and, good doctors, will always work with other professionals to help find a solution to a comprehensive and multidisciplinary problem. Dr. Duerksun should be ashamed at home he practices medicine and how he is as a person!

He was on top on his game 20yrs ago, but hasn’t kept up with medical literature since.
Wont recognize post-cholecystectomy syndrome…. And good luck getting his office to answer or even call you back.

The best of the best GI specialists and any doctor for that matter. He is so kind and compassionate. Such a quiet calm reassuring voice. Never raises his voice or says anything derogatory about your lifestyle or choices you’ve made. He continues to see me every 6 months- 1 year for a mild colitis. I would have discharged me long ago. Im a nurse practitioner and he talks to me like a colleague not a patient. Talks to me in a very calm voice and asks how you’re really doing. Doesn’t rush you even if he’s behind a bit. I’ve been seeing Dr. Duerksen for about 15 years since being diagnosed with mild colitis after being diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. He’s never said well you’re doing good so see you later. He just did a colonoscopy and found the colitis still there but now polyps but he biopsied them to make sure they’re not cancerous. I’ll be sad the day he retires
:-( Thank you Dr. Duerksen for all your years of care. Donna

BEST DOCTOR THAT EVER EXISTED...PERIOD Kind, professional and the best
listener and advice giver. Have been with him for 20+ years and always look
forward to seeing him even under "crappy" circumstances.

When I came into hospital with a severe ulcerative colitis flare Don Duerksen was the GI on call. When I was told they would need to do a scope I was terrified. My last colonoscopy was awful. This doctor made me so comfortable and listened to my concerns. The operation went perfectly. I couldn’t be more impressed. I’m very grateful and thankful he has done so much to help me on my road to recovery! I’m slowly but surely getting better thanks to him and his team :)
