While I agree that Dr. Shum is often late for his appointments, he is well worth the wait. I appreciate that he recommends tea with honey, it's an inexpensive home remedy and those (remedies) should be exhausted before using more invasive measures. Dr. Shum was the first Doctor to have diagnosed a tumor located above my hip. I had lived with this tumor for five years, and when I questioned other Doctors about the growth they would tell me that they weren't sure what it was but to not worry about it, that it was probably a minor injury. Dr. Shum diagnosed this tumor on my first visit with him. Within two months after receiving the diagnosis from Dr. Shum, the tumor was successfully removed. Thank you, Dr. Shum.

Terrible...saw him twice via walk-in; first time he missed my infection and I had to see another doctor a few days later to get antibiotics; second time, he was very dismissive about my problem, and told me it was "no big deal". Again, had to see another doctor within a few days because my cuts were, in fact, infected and Dr. Shum had said there was no reason for me to have antibiotics. Lack of confidentiality - leaves door open.

Dr. Shum has been my family doctor for a few years now. I have no complaints. He is very helpful, caring, and soft spoken. He obviously loves to help people or he would have retired already. I would highly recommend him to others. He takes his time with his patients. He seems to have a British accent not slurred speech like a previous blog states. He's not a computer whiz but a very helpful, knowledgeable, competent doctor and a dear sweet man. There should be more like him.

i went to the walk in to get my blood test results for pregnancy. I already knew i was because i had taken 2 tests before but they wanted to make sure. when i got in the room it took him 20 mins for him to figure out how to work the computer. he couldnt find my results. than when he did he told me i was pregnant, and asked me what i was going to do about it. i said obvioiusly i am keeping it. he than gave me a lecture about options, and that i will be stuck with this decision for the rest of my life. i than asked for a referral for a obgyn that i had in mind. he refused to refer me and told me to go to womans hospital because they do referrals there. i than told him i only wanted to see this one doctor, and he finally gave me me a referral.

Thankfully, I only had the joy of meeting Dr. Shum for a meet-n-greet. I agree with the last rater in that he is a glorified drug dealer. His office is about the size of a bathroom. He made me weigh myself -- probably because he can't see the small numbers on the scale. I don't believe anyone has mentioned the fact that he is elderly and slurs his speech. I'm on meds for a chemical imbalance and he tried telling me I needed to go to a psychiatrist even though I'm fine. He also tried to question a diagnosis I'd gotten from a previous doctor about a condition I've dealt with since I was fourteen (I'm 25 now). NEVER EVER go to this doctor. Apart from the stupid woman who told me I was miscarrying when I wasn't even pregnant, this man is probably THE worst doctor I've ever encountered.

Dr.shum is nothing more than a glorified drug dealer, my girlfriend went to see him twice for back related problems, and he refused to get an ex-ray, and also called chiropractors "glorified measuses" so in the end we walked out with a hand full of pills and no answer to the back problems, went to see another doctor and he diagnosed it as a torn muscle and the problem went away!, I would not recoment anyone to see this "glorified drug dealer"

Dr. Shum is the BEST doctor I have met. Soft spoken, kind but very knowledgable. You can tell he really loves being a doctor.

Nice guy. Sure. However. Doesn't matter what the medical problem is -- his response is either - nothing is wrong - or self treat yourself. No joke. He once handed me a razor and instructed how to cut off a growth. The five times I had him as a walk-in - my medical problem was always in my head. Or was it....

Dr.Shum is a very nice and intelligent man. I've been seeing him as my general physician for years and he always helps me out with whatever I need. He does tend to speak outside of the confines of the matter at hand. That just goes to show you that he really does care about you even after you leave the clinic. First rate!
