I decided to use a psychiatrist to change medications as I was on a medicine I knew had serious withdrawal symptoms if not weaned properly. She weaned me way too fast causing my blood pressure to sky rocket, severe headaches, digestive problems, and constant crying for days. She was rude, cold and condescending. I was 15 minutes late for an appt. because of the withdrawal symptoms. I was in her office and she refused to see me, refused to do a phone consult and offer to hospitalize me as my only recourse. I called my primary care Dr. who took my blood pressure, discussed my symptoms and in 5 minutes told me I was going through serious withdrawal. I was being weaned way too fast and she shared her approach for transitioning from this medication. My primary care doctor, a physician assistant, was far more knowledgeable than Dr. Susan Dewitt on these anti-depressant medications. I will never go back and I will never recommend her to anyone.

She is very confrontational and creates an uncomfortable environment in which to improve. She believes in very heavily educating her patients, but does not make herself available when those medications cause unwanted side-effects outside of scheduled appointments - even after the side effects have landed you in hospitals or urgent care facilities. Some of her treatment did help me with my anxiety, but by the end she had over-medicated me into near heart failure - and still I couldn't get her to return calls! All things considered, save the trauma and go to another specialist, there are plenty more around.

Dr. Devitt knows alot about the medications she is prescribing, but tends to want to increase dosages for meds for me. I was scared of the medications when I came into her office b/c I had a bad reaction to one, and would have preferred alternative methods, but still tried the one she prescribed with good results. Her office staff is typically very busy and does not do reminder phone calls.
