I have been seen by the NP for several years, on multiple occasions she suggested I stop nursing my infant son to take statins. My cholesterol was not excessively high, and the raise was mainly due to the fact that I WAS nursing. When my son weaned at 22 months, my cholesterol dropped to 185. She told me that nursing beyond 12 months was unnecessary, which is incredibly untrue. Just two months ago, I found out I had an autoimmune disease. I was called by the office staff to relay the diagnosis and told to have more blood work done in 8 weeks. No information on the disease, no call from an actual medical professional. At this time I am leaving the practice, in the 6 years I have been here I have never met Dr. Downey.

This is a long termed based practice. I myself have been a patient for over 12 years. The appt times are prompt and I have never NOT received a call back on any inquiries. The office staff are all very friendly and knowledgable. They "suffer no fools" however and do not put up with abusive pts as I have witnessed. They, under the direction of the MD, help run the practice very well. The NP and MD are very good and knowledgable. The staff helps with all aspects of care including billing. It's a small practice so maybe not for all but if you are looking for good care...this is your place.

The main problem is not with the doctor herself, but the staff. They do not keep the normal working hrs. that they advertise. If they are not busy, they close up shop well before the 4:30 hour. I have tried calling as early as 3:00 and they have closed for the day. This is unacceptable. Plus, their answering machine will take messages but will not return your call. Very unprofessional.

I have been Dr. Downey's patient for more than 10 years. She is very thorough and takes her time with you. She answers questions and is patient and kind. Her office staff has been helpful and friendly. Sometimes it is hard to get an appointment with the doctor, but her PA has been very good also.

Although I think Dr. Downey is a fine physician, she has a small office and some of her staff members are just terrible. In particular there is a women identified as "Sue" who has been unpleasant and unresponsive. I have recently moved to Florida and need my medical files sent to me. I started with a letter, then followed up with a phone call 2 weeks later. I have gotten the run around by her and when I asked in desperation to speak with Dr. Downey she said "No, and Dr. Downey is sitting right here next to me". Unbelievable... Her latest is that they are "entitled to take 30 days to copy records" - so much for getting records in a timely fashion - if you have anything other than ROUTINE care needed, I would recommend trying a larger practice with more responsive staff.

Dr. Downey makes the time to spend with a patient, getting a very detailed history and is patient with answering questions and reviewing articles I've brought in to discuss. Her staff is aces as well - you always fell like they are taking the time to pay attention to you and your case. Very professional and pleasant!
