Dr. Taunton replaced my left knee. After nearly a year of pain and swelling I had it replaced again. As others have suggested, check with malpractice attorneys. His name is very well known.

Dr. Taunton is the most helpful and patient surgeon. He has guided me consistently in the right direction and a big believer in Taking the path of least resistance first.

Knee replacement worse than knee before surgery.
Dr told me after the surgery " I only have problems with the younger patients " I was 44. This was not mentioned a possibility before the surgery.
I had knee replacement, MUA, 9 mos of physical therapy and can't bend past 99 degrees. Everyone else gets to 120 or better. I feel my knee is too big for my bones, or the angle is off. But he wont admit he made a mistake.

I have not personally gone to Dr. Taunton, but I have worked with numerous (over 50+) of his patients in therapy after they underwent a knee replacement (also hip, however I want to focus on the knee for this review) over the last 8 years. I have worked in skilled nursing rehab for 25 yrs now. I have worked with many of Dr. Taunton’s pts because they come to us for in patient rehab from the hospital. His patients more than any other are able to perform knee flexion more than 90 degrees within 2 weeks. It’s incredible. His incisions look wonderful and people truly do good after. I recommend for any patients I know to go to him for consult. I have seen him do really great things with patients that were told from other Dr’s they would not perform the surgery. Pts that are older and or over weight. I highly recommend you go for a consult at a minimum.

Oh boy...a very big NO. Talk to local malpractice attorneys and see how many complaints against him. Total knee replacement. A lot of post surgery issues that could have been prevented by Dr but were not.

This so called Doctor is very money hungry.... He started out giving me shots for hip pain. He was in and out quickly. I then started seeing him for my right knee as I was in severe pain. He once came in to the room to see me and he sat down with his legs spread. (That made me very uncomfortable.) He stated I needed a right knee replacement. Said he could do it at one hospital or another one, if preferred. I told him which hospital I wanted to go to and when his assistant came in she stated he could only do it at this one hospital which I didn't want to go to. I also was told to go to a class to get a better idea on what was going to happen. I attended the class and the medical personnel there were the Administrator, nurses, therapy etc. and I was the only one there. Class was interesting. Admitted to hospital and the those people were friendly. During my stay the nurses were very slow in getting to my room when I pushed the button. Once I didn't get lunch. Nurses not real helpful. Dr. would always come in and stand at the foot of my bed, lifted up the sheet at the bottom and touched my toes and he said everything is OK. What a doc !!! He released me 3 days later at 7:00 am and I waited until 4 pm before a head nurse came in to get me. Afterwards I stayed home with very little to no physical therapy. To date, I am in lots of pain due to him and I've seen other doctors and they do not want to correct it as they do not want to due another surgery due to this doctors big mistake. I finally begged for PT from him and finally got some but it was too late as the damage in my knee had already been done. Never going back to see him. I finally got my medical records and the last thing he wrote in my file was "- "what she has is pretty much what she has." Will never go back to see this doctor.

Dr. Taunton is an amazing surgeon. He has replaced both hips right in 2011 and left in 2013 due to a genetic issue. I am very young and am more active today then I was before surgery. That includes 2-3 miles a day at the track 5 days a week! He is to the point and will not waste your time. I can't imagine anyone else doing my surgeries. What an incredible surgeon!
