Although doctor popping retired at the end of 2014 he was the best doctor I've ever had and the only one who helped me he was very thorough he knew exactly what he was going to be doing before the surgery even started after doing extensive testing CT scan x-rays & MRI all other surgeons I had seen before him had told me but my surgery would only take 20 to 30 minutes but I knew that they were missing a lot of information about my condition and could not answer any of my questions my surgery turned out to be four and a half hours he was very thorough and his staff were awesome it's really too bad there's not more doctors like him out there

Dr Poppen was the only surgeon who spent considerable time with me prior to surgery to explain what was going on. I am 3 months post surgery and am very happy with the surgery and post surgery care. The staff is awesome.

I walked out of his office in tears. This was years ago, but I have never forgotten it. I & my family have a LOT of experience with MD's as we had a pharmacy in Southern Cal which was very successful. The pharmacy depended on honest & ethical relationships with doctors, who can & sometimes DO make mistakes. I quickly found out that Dr. Poppen was a man you do NOT question. It was his way or the highway. I found another doctor & never went back. I'm VERY glad he did not do surgery on me, because it was obvious that had things gone wrong, there would be more tears. I've never had such a bad experience with such a rude doctor, & I hope I never have an experience like that again.

Dr. Poppen gave me the most thorough examination I've ever had by an orthopedist. Between the exam, tests and x-rays he diagnosed and showed me on the MRI both a badly torn rotator cuff, and a torn labrum. While I was in surgery he also noted a rough bone section. The surgery took longer than expected, but it was because he was very thorough and meticulous in the repairs, and smoothed the rough bone that appeared to irritate soft tissue without any additional charge. Some might describe as gruff, but I found him knowledgeable, thorough, and with a dry sense of humor. The most important thing to me was not his bedside manner, but his competence as a surgeon. I had referred to him by a surgeon at Curtis National Hand Center, for a previous hand injury. When I injured my shoulder, I did not hesitate to return to him after the care I'd received on my hand and wrist. Love his friendly staff!

Dr. Poppen's license should be revoked. I went in for a shoulder repair of my rotator cuff (a 2 hour max surgery) and was in the operating room for over 5 hours! No one ever updated my wife, who had been told it would be a two hour surgery. Also he "lost" the sugery video.A week after the surgery I developed massive swelling similar to the size of a softball around my shoulder. I was also having intense pain in my shoulder that the PT thought was uncharacteristic of the surgery I had. Dr. Poppen disregarded the swelling yanked my arm around causing intense pain and told me I wasnt doing enough PT. No tests were ever ordered to determine cause of swelling. 6 months later, the pain never subsided and my PT advised me to find another Dr. I later found Dr. Hirahara and was diagnosed with a rotator cuff tear (still)& a complete labrum tear which was not present before dr poppens surgery. Dr. Poppens bedside manner is pitiful at best, he is a condescending man. Do NOT trust this man!

Worst doctor in the world. Worst human being I've met in a long time. He has zero bedside manner. He is angry and yells at you if you don't understand what he is saying. I had a wrist problem. He told me that I was faking and yelled at me. He insulted my wife who was there with me. I ended up changing doctors to Dr. Mark Endicott. Dr. Endicott diagnosed me with a cartilage tear and repaired it. I have been doing great since then. I would not wish Poppen on my worst enemies.
