If I could leave a review with 0 stars, I would. In our annual check up, and also first meeting, I expressed to her that I was looking for permanent sterilization. Dr. Hersh interrupted my explanation for this desire to tell me no, she would not. When I asked for a referral to a surgeon who could, she told me, "I can do it, but I won't. No doctor will due to your age."
At this point, I became upset and began to silently cry as she proceeded to carry on with the annual exam (including the surprise rectal exam other negative reviews have mentioned here). I was silently crying for the remainder of the appointment and not once did Dr. Hersh ask about my well being or if I needed a break. Instead, here are some of the things she said to me during the rest of my papsmear and breast exam after her initial rejection.
"You're too young."
"You'll change your mind." (I am 28 and tried to explain I wanted this for the better part of a decade, but she continuously interrupted me).
"I don't do that until someone past the reasonable age of wanting kids."
"Tell your husband to get a vasectomy because he's old enough."
"Your fertility is valuable."
The visit ended with me politely rejecting her pushes for me to explore other birth control options, still crying as I did so. Instead of accepting this or asking about my well being, Dr. Hersh told me "It's not just me that won't do this. No doctor will do this for you." & then she walked out.
It took me over 3 hours to deescalate from the panic attack afterward. I cannot understate how disturbing this behavior is to treat someone with so little compassion when they are being so vulnerable.
All this to say, I got scheduled for a bilateral salpingectomy the very next week. I am writing this review from the comfort of my home in recovery from said surgery with a doctor who actually gave me compassion, respect, & supported my bodily autonomy.
