Dr. Jas Atwall was my family doctor for years. I'm in my 20s and I was seeing him since I was 14. When I got married my husband and I were trying for children for 2 years. I asked him for a pap smear at 19 years old, he told me I didn't need one. I expressed to him about my inability to become pregnant after 2 years of trying, I asked if he could write me a consult for a OBGYN and he refused. Another 2 years past and each time I asked to see someone in regards to my infertility issues he said I didn't need to see anyone and to just keep eating healthy and exercise (yet I was already slim and had losed 50lbs already.) Instead he would ask about my finances and how much money I make, I told him I finished university and started my career. He told my at 25 I was too young to have children and maybe wait. I gave up on Dr. Atwal. I ended up seeing another doctor who once I explain I was trying to get pregnant for 4 years immediately scheduled me an appointment with an OBGYN, It turned out I had poly cystic ovary syndrome and tumors in my uterus which was causing my infertility. Years and years of asking and I was denied. My new doctor that schedule all this for me as well, didn't ask me for my husband and I's financial information or told me I was too young either. I gave staff a high rating because his medical secretary, April is so sweet, attentive and just all around incredible; she always remembers you name and greets you with kindness when you arrive.

I am not going to this Doctor anymore. I have had continual problems over the last 5 with my health. Atwal treated me as if I was an idiot, talked down to me and left me with impression that I was not trusted. I do not like him. He is a pretenscious ass, and his attitude towards me is one of aloof disdain. I wanted a doctor who cares about MY health, not act as a barrier to getting assistance. He has never recommended a checkup, referred me or made any suggestions about what I should be doing for my health. He is a family doctor, I was planning on seeing him for years, I want to know my caretaker actually gives a damn. I cannot stand his smug and condescending attitude towards me. I have finally had enough with him and I am going to another Doctor. If you have good service from him, you are probably rich or professional career, as then you are one of his people. He has made it clear though that I am not to be treated with any mutual respect, so F*** you atwal, good riddance.

I do not understand any of the negative comments here; he has been my long-time MD and is absolutely first rate, the best of the best. My wife goes to him as well and we wish he had time to take on one of our sons. Persons should realize doctors are always busy, no doubt underpaid here in Canada and I do not waste his time by chatting. I too, am busy and like to get in and out as quickly as possible. My guess is many like to visit, complain, or self-diagnose. I am very glad my family and my inlaws are not the complaining type. Dr. Atwal is highly intelligent has a great memory for ailments and symptoms, and we are absolutely confident and thankful he is our family doc.

Dr. Atwal is often in a rsuh and this is suprising as he never seems to ahve alot of patients. He also can be very rude at times and forgets to get back to you with reults of tests that are negative. It tooks him several months to get back to me on a suspicious ovarian cyst. He is very critical if you are overweight and can be almost insulting in his approach. I ahev found that I will go to a different doctor and get help quicker. He will nto refer you to a specialist and often does not take issues seriously.

Dr. Atwal has been my family doctor for several years now. I am surprised with the good rating that he has on here. I find him to be in a constant rush, uncaring, unattentive, and forgetful. The only good thing i can say about him is April his nurse is nice and patients have little to no wait time. He makes me uncomfortable during internal exams. When I did have an abnormal pap smear it took him months to tell me this info and to refer me to a specialist. When I had gall stones it took him 8 months to refer me to a surgeon, when i asked him why the wait, he said he forgot to write the letter. Many time he is argumentive and defensive when I go to the office, asking him for anything is difficult. I don't know if this all stems from the fact that I am an Aboriginal female, but I will be looking for a new family doctor immediately.

Im suprised reading all the comments. I do not like this doctor very much. He seems like a nice guy but I felt very uncomfortable several times infront of him. I wanted to get tested for diabetes because it runs in my family, im slightly overweight and dont heal well. I thought it was a legit thing to ask. He made me feel very stupid. Wait time is rated well for me, but that is about it.

Dr Atwal is always very quick to see me, but lately it seems as if the problems I have are unimportant to him. I have had several chronic issues that I have repeatedly seen him for, and each time he brushes it off as nothings when they are clearly disrupting my life. That said, he's been my favorite doc for years and is super friendly and professional. I would still recommend him, even if i am finding the sometimes need for a 2nd opinion.

Dr Atwal is a fine doctor. Even though he goes through a lot of patients, he is friendly and punctual and will answer any questions you may have.
