Tends to run up charges with biopsies. He and his staff are mistake prone - ruined my biopsy samples (forgot formaldehyde) and had to redo them, hit an artery both times while doing biopsy and caused lots of bleeding, then sent my prescription to California instead of Illinois. Then forgot to schedule PSA testing at follow up and had to reschedule. Then forgot the next time. If you use them, you need to remind them rather than depend on them to do anything. They have a captive market here in Alton, since there are very few urologists locally, so they do not care about patients as there are always plenty. Stein Urology uses refusal to do prescription refills to force you to pay for follow up exams. His associate Lori McCleod is much more careful and caring.

Dr Stein is EXTREMELY rude and disregarding to his patients. I was admitted on a Wednesday and scheduled to have surgery on Thursday morning. He changed my procedure without consulting me late in the evening. I refused to sign the papers until after he explained everything to me. He couldn't understand why I wanted to have it explained. I finally signed and he placed a stint in my kidney to help the stones. I had lithotripsy rescheduled for the next Friday. His nurse called me on Wednesday and said that his schedule had changed and he wouldn't be able to remove the stint. I can go on and on but I'm running out of space. Basically, DO NOT USE DR STEIN. Go to STL if you have to - he is hateful, rude and uncaring. I also had to have an x-ray AFTER I told his nurse that he had taken the stint out in OR. She argued with me that it wasn't in the records. X-ray showed no stint as I had told her in the first place. $508 charge for x-ray!!!!

When I complained about waiting in an exam room for over an hour, Dr. Stein told us to go elsewhere to someone who is not as busy as he is. The arrogance, disregard and negligence are inexcusable. My 82 year old father was referred for an elevated PSA and also has many other health problems. He refused to recommend another physician and left my father with no resources. I plan to report him to the AMA, area hospital boards and primary care physicians in our area to stop referrals.
