Biography
Dr Cangas is from Dallas City, IL. He married his wife Zoe (rhymes with Joe) in February, 2014. Zoe obtained her degree in Kineseology from Eastern Illinois University. They have a 3 children. After high school, Joe served in the. Army.. He then attended Southeastern Community College, Western Illinois University, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His pediatric residency was completed at the University of Missouri in 2004.. He enjoys watching college sports, is a Cardinals fan, is an active member of the Columbia and Crestwood/Sunset Hills Kiwanis, and a board member of Life Network of Southern Illinois. After working in Salem, IL for two years, he wanted to be closer to 'the city'. So, in 2006, he started Illini Pediatrics, after seeing the need for a pediatrician in Monroe County. Together with Illini Pediatrics and Helmets First, he hopes to keep the children of the area safe and healthy.

- [ ] Unfortunately we did not have a good experience with this pediatrician. His passive aggressive, child like response was just the last red flag my family needed to know we needed to find a pediatrician that lived up to their word, was compassionate and showed grace & who also cared to know more about my child. I got referred to him by a friend of mine who is a very trusted source to me so I had no doubt, along with reading great reviews that he would be a perfect fit for my child. As a first time mom you get very overwhelmed & just want the best for your child. I truly feel saddened by the disrespectful, passive aggressive and hypocritical behavior I received from this doctor. Reading reviews I really wish I had the experience most of these people talk about. Unfortunately I got the “burnt out and frustrated” Dr. Cangas who takes his frustration out in passive aggressive, snide remarks to his newer families. Who didn’t care to even know my child but was surely ok with taking that monthly membership fee without even asking about him, no check ups, just moved back appointments, and a two minute phone call. I Highly do not recommend him and anyone i know who is having a child from here on out I will speak on my experience about him. Truly disheartening.
