I was referred to Dr Johnson as a result of an ongoing work injury caused by my work in the NSW Police (PTSD). I had been seeing treating providers for 4 years which had no success in stemming the symptoms from years of death, destruction and violence. I found him to be professional, compassionate, knowledgeable and more importantly empathetic. I found during all my appointments that he consistently consulted with me for close to an hour which is a rarity in my experience with other doctors. It is clear that he cares about his patients. In my experience as a result of my employment exposed to mentally Ill patients and their doctors, aswell as my own personal experiences that this was a trait that very few doctors possessed. I believe he has this trait because has been exposed to trauma himself with that he has lived outside the bubble that doctors tend to live in that are generally fed from the silver spoon from an early age, live in books for the majority of their life and than live vicariously through their patients with no understanding of a hard life.
It is clear now from an ongoing tribunal matter lasting several years that he developed a relationship with a previous patient during a time of great stress. From the evidence this patient was not the complainant and became/was a high performing member of the medical profession who eventually became his wife. (Hardly a vulnerable member of society).
What I liked most about him is that he battled with the potential loss of his registration for several years but still was able to be the doctor that I experienced. Martin Luther King said “ The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. He is a genuine human being who has developed scratches and marks through his life and he uses them to understand and help his patients patients through theirs. I fully recommend Dr Johnson to anyone seeking medical care for mental health struggles.
