If I could give a negative number, I would. This is by far the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a therapist. I actually needed to go see another therapist to have her undo the damage Dr. K did to me. Several years ago, I went to her for a consultation to tell her about a very difficult situation I had been through. I had experienced major trauma and was post-divorce and she told me that I “deserved it” meaning the outcome. I was also seeing a man and she told me it wouldn’t work out because he had never been married. We are currently married and very happily. Anyway, I was so taken aback and devastated by her absolutely brutal comments, especially being in the emotionally fragile state I was in that I fled the office asap.
Do not see this therapist. She is so incredibly toxic and is in need of therapy herself and should banned from practicing!!!

Interesting how this therapist decides whom to take on as a client. I wrote of my interest in speaking with her and received this email in response:
"I don't believe I'm the right person for you to work with. You said: 'An interactive and dynamic approach in therapy works well for me.' That says to me that you've been 'in therapy' before, and maybe you've even seen several people. In my experience, folks - who've seen other mental health professionals - tend to be rather put off by my directness and sort of 'no nonsense' approach."
HUH? Aside from how off-putting this response is to someone who's reached out for help, what is it she's trying to say about me? Thank goodness I didn't end up paying her for anything.

Unprofessional and disrespectful. She returned my call having assumed I did not meet her 40 YO age minimum and contacted her in error. I told her I am seeking an appointment for a joint session with myself and my Mother (Baby Boomer generation). When I mentioned that I was identifying a few therapist options and will let my Mom decide, Dr. Kimmel interrupts me to ask "is your mother a child?" Floored, I just waited for her to clarify. She then says, "I mean, is she senile?" I promptly ended the call.

Not good. My husband and I went in for couples' counseling. Within 30 seconds of meeting me she was making very strong statements about what I "must" be like. Very unhelpful.

I felt compelled to review this person after what had to be the strangest first and only appt I have ever had with a therapist. I contact Dr. Kimmel regarding couples counseling for myself and my significant other of 4 years, for issues that did not involve any abuse or infidelity or anything else of a major nature. It was simply a general, generic "not getting along well, arguing a lot, financial strain" type of situation. I also mentioned we had a 2 year old child, and after this, Dr. Kimmel immediately said our situation sounded "very sad for the child" and therefore she could not help us--at all. We had only one phone appt, during which I was polite and well-spoken, and could not at all understand why my having a child would preclude this couples counselor from working with myself and my partner. My boyfriend is non-abusive and there was no hint of any "danger" or major issues here...does Dr. Kimmel not ever come across any couples who have children together?!! That seems unlikely!
