I was diagnosed with L4-L5 Herniation, that was pushing onto my nerve root. I was having terrible back pain along with pain down both my legs with numbness and tingling.
Dr Koltz was very honest that likely only a Spinal fusion would likely allievate my back pain, but a discectomy might also be helpful. He was very open about the fact that the Spinal fusion has increased risk to needing futher intervention in the future and incrased back problems.
I asked him straight forward; What would you do if the roles were reveresed?
Needless to say, after my discectomy from exactly one year ago I am back to excercising and being active with rare discomfort anymore. I am down to taking ibuprofen once per day; compared to multiple medications around the clock to keep my pain under control prior to the surgery.
I highly recomend him, but I will state that not all cases are the same.
