I had my first appointment with him last Friday. After waiting 20 minutes in the reception area, I was taken to a patient room and waited another 45 minutes before a staff member came in and said he should be in pretty soon. After an additional 20 minutes, Dr. Richardson came in and I had a very thorough appointment during which time I felt the doctor was caring and concerned about me. At the end, he ordered a barrage of tests, and on my way out of the office handed me 64 pages of information about
Coccydynia. On Monday I returned to have an EEG study and was told by Dr. Richardson that he would call if the test revealed anything of concern. By Thursday I had not heard back so I called the office to follow up since I was anxious about the results. I was told that he had read the report but not written one and I asked for a follow up appointment or at least a phone call to find out what if anything was going on. Then a member of front office told me that my test was abnormal and of course I became alarmed and asked again if I could get an appointment that day or at least a phone call to help put my mind at ease. The answer was no, but you could come in the following day at 9:15. I said great I’ll be there. What happens next is really bizarre. I got a phone call from his office telling me that I’m not a good fit for him, and that he can refer me to another neurologist. Then all of a sudden the report that was only supposedly read at that point was sent to me in written form for me to read and I suppose interpret myself. I was left with no one to discuss the “abnormal” findings from the test. So I immediately consulted with another neurologist, who relieved my fears, and advised there was nothing neurologically wrong.
I should have seen this coming when Dr Richardson refused to speak with me before my EEG about an alarming diagnosis he had written on the order that he had not told me about. It was shocking to think any doctor would allow a member of his staff to give such upsetting news without picking up the phone knowing the anxiety it could cause. My impression is that Dr. Richardson is a knowledgeable person but the lack of empathy and cavalier manner with which his staff delivered the alarming results is unconscionable. I can only attribute his poor management style to being overworked and lacking a supportive, caring and concerned staff that has the basic humanity to put someone’s concerns at ease. His decision to “drop” me without even a phone call alleviating my concerns sets the example for his staff to follow and therein lies the problem. There’s more to the story, but I think you get the idea I should’ve read the reviews online a little more closely. I would avoid this guy at all possible costs.

I see other comments complaining about the thoroughness of Dr. Richardson's work and I honestly find it amusing. The point of going to the doctor is for them to exhaust all options and get down to the bottom of the source of your symptoms. You weren't referred to a Neurologist for no reason. The reason the wait is so long is because of his thoroughness in every single appointment. He sat down with me for 45 minutes just asking questions about my symptoms and everything I was experiencing and might have caught something that every other doctor that I have seen has missed. Additionally, the comments about Dr. Richardson not ordering tests before he has a consultation...? That is typical protocol in every office I've ever been to. He would be naive and uninformed to just order tests without actually seeing you. Your doctor can suggest tests that need to be done but they do not specialize in Neurology. That is LITERALLY his job. To end, Dr. Richardson has been the most thorough doctor that I have ever seen. Asking about symptoms I wasn't even aware of or tracking and ensuring that he did everything he could to avoid any future attacks or symptoms. Surprisingly, as a 22 year old patient, no other doctor has treated me this thoroughly and truly tried to find answers like Dr. Richardson has.

No matter what your reason for visiting Dr Richardson he will send you for 25+ labs (18+ vials of blood to fill takes more than 1 poke btw), MRI, EEG, EMG and more. I have 4 co-workers that went to him and it was the same thing!!! He will exhaust your FSA and wallet only to find out all tests were normal. We all had the same experience. His staff wasn't processional. You definitely feel like they're in this for the money and no other reason. Also, avoid cancelling w/out 48 hours notice or they will charge you $170+. You will also WAIT and WAIT and WAIT for your apt. Likely 45-60 minutes in a tiny room just waiting. I had this experience as did all of my co-workers. AVOID THIS GUY!

I’ve seen Dr. Richardson for several years and he is absolutely one of the most thorough and tenacious doctors I’ve known when it comes to figuring out what is wrong with you. He is truly a patient advocate! I have found him to be kind, caring and thoughtful. He never rushes me and always addresses everything I’ve brought forth. He has helped uncover potential life threatening issues in me and I am forever grateful. His staff is super helpful. Friendly and accommodating. People often complain about wait time in his office? I say he is worth the wait and individualized treatment you receive.

My PCP wanted me to have a nerve conduction study performed however, instead of just setting up an appointment for this the doctor apparently insisted that I first have a consultation with him. My experience in the past has been that the consultation happens at the same time as the test but after reading reviews about this doctor on another site it appears he just wants to collect additional money. Oh well, I went along with it but it took days of me having to call his office, because my calls weren't being returned, just to make the appointment. On the day of the appointment my boss was ill and could not make it in. There are only two of us and we cannot leave the office unmanned so I had to cancel. I was told someone would call back because the doctor had a cancellation fee policy which I found to be odd and unreasonable and I was certain that could not be enforced; they had no information on me. Of course as their status quo would have it I did not receive any return call and when I called I was told that because I cancelled on the same day the doctor would not agree to see me at all. I literally laughed out loud when the receptionist told me this. How absurd!

When I had issues with an old neuro. I was referred to Dr Richardson. We worked closely together to try and find the right way to deal with my IIH. He has been so helpful with trying to get things right. I am glad I changed over to him. He sits with you and goes over everything possible.

When we moved to CA last year, my husband, who has Alzheimer's suffered anxiety attacks, and CMH put him on a medication that caused hallucinations, more anxiety, phobias, etc. It was really scary. We went to Dr. Richardson and within a few days of the change in medicine by Dr. Richardson, he was back to his old Alzheimer's self. He may overprescribe, may order a bit more tests than necessary, but he was our life-savior. He spends as much time as each patient needs, so, although we hate to wait, we think he gives the time his patients need.

I can only say good things about Dr. Scot Richardson. He was always there for my deceased husband, diagnosed him right on with a very rare Parkinson's disease (Shy-Drager syndrome). When things got bad, he did take my calls after hours.
You might have to wait a little in the waiting room, but it is worth it because when it is your turn he takes his time and listens (lots of doctors do not do that).
I'm now seeing Dr. Richardson myself and I know I'm under the best care possible. And trust me, he has great bedside manners. So I can recommend Dr. Richardson highly!

I had problems that shared symptoms with what was supposedly and possibly MS according to Dr. Richardson--my one eye was not working properly (double vision) and I was getting headaches. For SEVERAL MONTHS I had to go through painful, multitude of tests (including a spinal tap that went wrong at the recommended hospital). He wanted to put me on Copaxone right away as he came to the conclusion it was MS, which when I talked to several people, Copaxone doesn't heal MS, and has all kinds of side effects--I didn't like this idea. My wife encouraged me to find outside professional medical opinions, including stem cell therapy under a research group. In order to participate in this stem cell program, it required approval from a physician (at that time it was Dr. Richardson for me) to green light to get a simple EKG and other basic, pain free preliminary tests. He refused and called them "snake oil salesmen". He treated me like a child. I was forced to go to an Urgent Care Center (UCC) to receive the most simplest of tests to qualify me for the Stem Cell Therapy program. It was there that a simple EKG test revealed a 5% depression in my heart rhythm. UCC said they thought it necessary to send me to another doctor to receive a Ultrasound to play it safe. There they discovered a tumor in my heart in the right atrium. This lead to other doctors in the process that confirmed that I had a tumor the size under a baseball (six centimeters). Within a couple of weeks I had emergency open heart surgery to remove the tumor. The tumor was so large it was starting to break apart causing lesions in my brain mimicking MS. Thank God it was benign. If Dr. Richardson had just started with the basics, and given me a simple EKG test, we would have discovered my tumor. I tried calling his office and spoke to his staff relating my story, after my long journey of healing from my open heart surgery. I never heard by from Dr. Richardson. Take what you will from my tale.
