He's very smart and respected. So lucky to be able to be seen by him. i hope he doesn't retire or start teaching medical students.

I was referred to Dr.Kowalchuk after having a melanoma revomed from my arm. Dr.Kowalchuk comes very highly recommended by my Oncologist (Dr.Levesque) at St.Catharines hospital (Walker Cancer centre). In fact, Dr.Kowalchuk is my Oncologist's dermatologist! Dr.Kowalchuk, is very smart, very thorough and direct. I dont mind that he speaks fast or has little bedside manner because I am there to get done what needs to be done! His receptionist is a lovely, caring woman and always very accommodating and pleasant. Dr.Kowalchuk is now in Grimsby, so not too far and well worth the drive. I am very lucky to have him on my health care team!

I was going to Dr. Kowalchuk twice yearly for check-ups and sometimes a few freezing processes. My next appointment was about 6 weeks away but I became concerned about a spot near mo nose that he had treated before. I called his office to move up my appointment and got a recording...he had moved out of the city! I wasn't informed and have no idea what would have happened if I had waited for my regular appointment. I see someone else discovered the offices up for lease, so they weren't informed either. My GP found me another dermatologist but I had to wait at least 6 weeks to see him. He took one look at the area around my nose and immediately sent me to a plastic surgeon. He removed the lesion, had it tested and it was malignant. I then was referred to the Cancer Clinic at the hospital and received a two week bout of radiation on a daily basis. All this because Dr. Kowalchuk didn't have the decency to inform me of his move! What do you think I should rate him? Hmmmm????

I see him on a yearly basis and went for my appointment this morning only to see that the office was up for lease. Unimpressed.

Talks way too fast in technical language. Cannot seem to communicate at the layman's level. Tons of instruction not written down. Told him I could never remember all that and asked for written instruction but he only said to refer to the pharmaceutical product's description. Went to the pharmacist and even he couldn't give specific instructions yet wanted me to buy the products. I will have to go to another pharmacist until I understand what I am doing.

Can't really give a rating; I was referred to him for a skin tag that is cutting and bleeding constantly, but apparently he is the only dermatologist who doesn't treat skin tags. Found this out after getting the runaround for two days.

He has been top notch for my husband who he has removed skin cancer lesions and for myself as well. I also have psoriasis. You can not be seen by him unless you have a referral from your family doctor. His secretary is special and understanding. Recently I notice a lesion on my husband's shoulder and as I have seen similar before she got him in to see the doctor on the next day. Because Dr. Kowalchuk is so busy seeing and diagnosing lesions he had to send my husband on to a plastic surgeon to have it removed. This was taken off in 4 weeks. There just too many of us old folks with skin problems and not enough dermatologists in the area.
