In 2yrs, I have gotton off of a med that was 2 strong 4 me in terms of daily functioning (as well as for good refreshing sleep) Now, I have returned to normal functioning. If you can imagine how much of a "blessing" it is not to have to carry a very heavy load (of tiredness, sleepiness and other drug side effects) & exchange it 4 a return to normal life. On the old medication, I was sleepy and tired almost all the time. I slept 12hrs sometimes & even then needed 2 or so hrs more to feel normal. The old med was like trying to do things w/heavy weights tied 2 me (mental/physical) both while sleeping & trying to wake. Now those weights are gone. I gained maybe up to 4 rs a day (compared to some days) that b4 I normally lost to excessive drug side effects. Very thankfully, my sleep & dreams are better now too, & together w/these imprvmnts also, I can now spend time with my wife that I just couldn't b4. Dr. Binder is also faith affirming which to me as a Christian is absolutely esessential!

At the age of seventy, I began to have times when I was overcome by the summer heat. I would suddenly start to feel very anxious, like I couldn't breathe. At first I thought it was just the humidity, but after several episodes I began to realize that there was something very wrong. As time went on, the episodes got so bad that I eventually had to call 911.

After a series of negative tests in the emergency room, I was told that I was having panic attacks. I was then offered Xanax and then Zoloft, which I was told were standard treatments for panic disorder. The problem was that the Xanax scared me, and the Zoloft made me feel like a zombie. I was then referred to a psychiatrist.

When I explained all this to Dr. Binder, he told me that the dosage (25mg) was too high. I thought to myself, the smallest possible dose is too high? So he broke the 25mg tablet into about ten pieces and told me to take one tiny piece each day. (If you saw how small the pieces were, you would think that this could not possibly do anything). Even the pharmacist couldn't believe it. But amazingly, I never had another panic attack and it's been over three years now! At times I thought that it was a placebo effect, but each time I skip a dose, the panic feeling comes back.

What amazes me about Dr. Binder is not that he knew which medication to give me but that he instinctively knew exactly how much to give me! He didn't switch me to another medicine, but just lowered the dose, and I mean really lowered the dose! I think Dr. Binder is a one-in-a-million psychiatrist who really knows what he's doing!

I had my first appointment with Dr. Binder one year ago. After I explained my symptoms, he immediately diagnosed me with Cyclothymic Disorder. Cyclothymia is a mood disorder similar to bipolar, albeit less severe. By the time I started treatment, Cyclothymia had destroyed my life. I lost my friends, nearly failed out of college, and had no future whatsoever. I had literally lost my grip on reality. Anyway, I was eventually prescribed lithium which has changed my life.

Today, I am a first year in law school. I am astounded by how far I have come and it is truly all thanks to Dr. Binder. Obviously he correctly diagnosed me and prescribed an unbelievable medication. However, he has done so much more. Dr. Binder is very kind, understanding and knowledgeable. From day one I felt like I was in great hands, I knew I could trust him and that he would help me. All I had to do was listen. I am very quick to recommend Dr. Binder. Cyclothymia can be terrible and I hope that people with it can experience a balanced mind like I am.
