Now that I've had years of therapists who have helped me, I reflect on my first experience of therapy with Dr. Gerhardt and am appalled. That she fell asleep during sessions didn't bother me as much as the fact that she was condescending, uppity, and frankly mean. At one point, she referred to an experience I shared with her and said no man would want to be with "that type of woman." She told me she couldn't help me anymore while I was crying on her couch and refused to recommend other therapists because "none of my therapist friends accept clients who use insurance." Then she had the gall to leave me a voicemail with my invoice amount and tell me she hoped I could get over my "need to be egalitarian." It's been years, but after a really helpful session with my current therapist, who is amazing, I remembered how awful that experience was. In such difficult times, please find a therapist who won't further harm you.

Very distressing experience!
She fell asleep during our session several times.. and didn't acknowledge it.
Didn't let me know there would be a dog joining, which I thought was unprofessional
Inappropriate comments about my background..
Extremely expansive... $280!!! EVEN THOUGH I REQUESTED A SLIDING SCALE SINCE I'M CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED.
NO SUPPORT WAS GIVEN WHAT SO EVER!!!
I was very sad leaving the session.. I left feeling worst about the two deaths in my family and even more about myself.. in a session I am paying to UNDO some of the patterns of my childhood.. one of them was the pattern of neglect.. AND SHE JUST FED ALL OF THAT BACK TO ME!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND! STAY AWAY!
