Dr Van der Spek is a very knowledgeable man, excellent in his field of work. Has a lovely way with children.

Dr van der spek saved my little boys life by quick thinking and expert knowledge.
He treated us with upmost respect and understanding of a scary situation. Could not recommend enough.

We have meet with him 4 times now and I absolutely dread bring my child to him each time. He is so rude, has no patience. To help my child he should be positive and helpful. He constantly gives half the information or tells you the wrong way to do something then it's our fault. When this happens it's everyone's fault except his. On our last visit we meet with a junior Doctor who was lovely and so positive, but then he arrived not only undermining the Doctor but I felt he was so rude and very unhelpful to us too.

Dr VDS stormed into the consultation room like a tornado not appropriate for a kids clinic. He had pawned us off on a medical student who instead of looking at my child and and using common sense on how to speak to us, she read her questions from her RCSI booklet. She asked could my daughter walk while looking at me, my daughter mean while walked between a children's table and chair, she was standing walking squatting, playing with blocks. DR. VDS arrived he stayed max 10 mins, he prescribed a medication which he told me was not licensed in Ireland and I probably would not get in easily. He said everything he had to say was in his constipation booklet, had I read it?... and her constipation wasn't a big deal. He had no time to speak with me about her possible milk allergy, no word of a milk ladder. No advice on how to manage her constipation day by day. He told me I had to figure this out myself, after waiting month s for this appointment it was utterly disappointing, rushed and trivialized. Zero compassion for my daughter and zero respect for me as a worried mother.

Dr van der Spek has been my childres paediatrician for 16 years. He has always shown such kindness and professionalism over the many years going way and beyond to help us through worrying times. We will always be thankful for the care he has shown us.

Very rude man obsesswd with asking if we had private health insurance. Spoke very badly to us as parents with a very sick child . He did nothing for only question our medical insurance status. Discharged and presented at temple street and our childs health was priority not insurance !!!
