I cannot say enough about the excellent care I’ve received from Dr. Pope over the past 5 years. Always professional, knowledgeable, listens, & has a conservative approach without jumping right into surgery. I have 100% confidence in Dr. Pope because he discusses the options, presents the variable, and allows me to be involved in the decisions. I, personally, trust Dr. Pope and would not see any one else unless it was for a 2nd opinion.....something that Dr. Pope actually recommends. He is, unfortunately, with other doctors in this practice that I wouldn’t go to.....especially Dr. Kayal himself. It’s almost impossible for doctors to go “solo” these days.

My husband had doctor Pope a few years back and he was better before surgery. He also stated he needed another surgery IMMEDIATElY. We went for a second opinion who said there was no way he needed surgery. Well, it has been years and we are glad he never went for the second one. His office also over bills. Not surprising being in the group he is is. My husband also went to Golz who would bill for 5 or 6 things and we would see them on the insurance claim....when he only had done 2. Definite money making group. Stay away....go somewhere else...and get it done the right way.

I go out of my way to warn people about Pope and his group --- simply because I wish somebody had issued me such warning prior to my decision to have him perform a surgery that has severely impacted my standard of living. My condition is FAR worse now than prior to the surgery that Pope performed. He allows his office staff to double and TRIPLE book appointments in the Ridgewood office. Waiting up to an hour and a half to eventually see him is one thing; having him rush through an appointment because he has two others scheduled for the same time and leaving a stitch in my surgical incision is certainly profitable for him yet highly unethical. His is inappropriate care led to an infection that has cost me dearly! Further, I am aghast at the way in which a professional who seemed pleasant when all was going well ascended to an indignant arrogance when questioned about how things may have gone wrong. As a fellow colleague in his OWN office stated, "Pope has built a nice business. But he has yet to learn the art of humility --- a very important trait in the medical field!"
If you are involved with Pope, be WARY of his inclination for excessive injections (a HUGE money-maker). I have had to see multiple doctors subsequent to my disaster with Pope - and to a person they are appalled with his injection protocol. Surgeons have consistently told me that they might give 3-4 injections of Depomedrol in a year. Pope was generous enough to give me 4 in less than a month. His group gave me a total of 19 in an 18-month period. I blame myself for being so naive --- but I was foolish enough to believe that my surgeon had my best interest at hand as opposed to his billing. You can check state public records --- the Kayal group is the #1 dispenser of injections in the state and Pope is a major contributor to that "lofty" distinction.
In the end, Pope became indignant with my situation and pretty much dissolved the relationship with no concern at all. I am now working with a hospital in New York City to hopefully get back a portion of what has been lost - I will likely never fully recover. Pope's final retort of "Well, just give it time and it will likely get better" is far from my reality! Next month I will be involved as the case study for a group of 7-11 doctors from New York City hospitals who have deemed my situation to be "interesting and highly complex."
I was not looking to be interesting and highly complex. I was looking to get better and a simple surgery should have done the trick. Excessive injections and rushed, overbooked appointments by Pope have changed my life for the worse. I wish I had been warned --- which is why I offer this up to others.

I saw Dr. Pope for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and I found him to be very pleasant, skilled and knowledgeable. He repaired a tear in my supraspinatus at a surgicenter in Englewood. The procedure was explained to me in detail beforehand, so I had no concerns the morning of surgery, and I had detailed instructions about after care, as well. I followed the procedure with physical therapy and soon was able to return to all my activities and sports with pain-free full range of motion. I have referred many people to Dr. Pope since my own surgery, and I feel really confident about recommending him.
