I truly appreciate Dr. Zolovick's no-nonsense approach. He is the first, and to date only, doctor who hasn't gotten shifty when I say in no uncertain terms that I do not want children. Considering his specialty, I do feel a bit odd going to him when kids are not in my future, but he'll joke around with me and treat me as a valued patient regardless. He's not a "calm and caring" doc, he's more the "I know what I'm doing, let me work" doc, which might not be everyone's favored manner. While I haven't undergone a pregnancy, I can vouch a bit for his surgical skill: I had a Nexplanon rod extracted and a new rod inserted, and the extraction incision is smaller than the scarring from the first insertion that I had done at another clinic! I scar at the drop of a hat, so that was a definite marker of his skill, to me.

Oh man, I have such mixed feelings about Dr. Zolovick. I was a patient of his through five miscarriages - two of them were ectopic and ruptured. I wouldn't say that Zolovick is kind and caring but he is a great surgeon. Dealing with him was kind of like dealing w/ Dr. House. If I ever had to get a c-section or other surgery, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to him. Just be prepared for a fast talker. Either take notes or record your conversation b/c you're never going to remember it when you leave.

Another thing about Zolovick is that he's not really interested in anything outside of his specialty. When I was having miscarriages, he was great at treating them but told me if I wanted to talk about causes, I needed to go to a fertility specialist. At the time, I assumed a specialist would just try to talk me into invitro which I didn't want so I just suffered through. Eventually, I wanted someone with a slightly better bedside manner b/c all the miscarriages were starting to get to me (shocker) and I'd heard great things about Dr. David Roberts.

Dr. Roberts is fabulous. He took one look at my medical history and diagnosed his why I was having the miscarriages. Did a few tests to back up his theory, scheduled me for a minor, outpatient surgical procedure and 6 weeks later I was pregnant and carried that sweet boy to term. However, I didn't stay w/ Dr. Roberts for the full pregnancy, b/c I didn't want to deliver in Radford so far from my house so I switched to Dr. Carrie Champine who is sweet and lovely and great to talk to. Seriously, you're going to want to friend her on Facebook (I've resisted the urge b/c I'm sure it's inappropriate) and drink wine with her after work.

All that being said, I don't dislike Dr. Zolovick he just doesn't have a great bedside manner and isn't interested in all if you have fertility issues (not exactly a bad thing - he likes to stay in his lane). For surgical procedures, he's your guy.

Dr. Abrams was my primary but because it's a rotating practice, I had two run-ins with him when I was pregnant. During the first, he completely freaked out my husband and I by offhandedly telling us what genetic problems we could expect (I was 34) and acting like it was a done thing that one of us would have to quit our job to take care of the baby! The second time, I called when my breasts were leaking milk with a bloody tinge. He told me that it could be cancerous, but if it was, nothing could be done about it until I delivered, so why stress about it?! I am not making this up. Naturally, he was the doc on call when I went into labor. Luckily, the nurses did everything. I wish his name weren't on my daughter's birth certificate.

Any woman nurse or physician in the area will tell you - if they had a pregnancy complication or needed surgery, they would go to Dr. Zolovick. He's not going to hold your hand, but he will give you straight, direct and smart answers. I love his demeanor. Throughout my pregnancy, C-section and recovery, I felt great about asking him some pretty weird things and he was always prepared to talk about whatever I wanted to talk about. His humor and style make you feel really at ease. Also, I've seen some very sloppy c-section scars on other women and mine looks like a work of art.

Dr. Zolovic is obviously a smart man and is willing and able to answer any question. He is very brusque and busy, though, so don't expect a lot of TLC from him. He is usually running late to all appointments (he was even late for my 8a scheduled c-section!) but he's late because he's taking time with people. I hated waiting but knew he'd take his time with me, too. He was also nice about me bringing my kids to appointments.

He needs to listen when you say yes to circumsision. For me when I took my baby to his first dr appt she asked me if he was circumsised & said yes & she replied with well he doesnt appear to be...For months & months had to pull back skin to wipe my son clean & he freaked out everytime. The pediatrican when I told her Zolovick had 'done' the circ...said all the imcomplete circs she had come across were all his 'jobs'.My son to this day whi is 2.5 while changing him always says dont hurt fweenie dont hurt fweenie:( he doea not like it all all having to pull the skin to clean & they never dis anything to correct it before now I would not put him thru that now!:/

Dr. Z is extremely knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and has a dry sense of humor that I appreciate. As a patient, I would throw a laundry list of questions or concerns at him during every visit and he would answer them all while simultaneously putting me at ease. He delivered my 3 children and somehow kept me sane through all three pregnancies with a big dose of reassurance and much-needed humor. I cannot express how rare a find Dr. Zolovick is. Before Dr. Z, I had 3 different OB/GYNs before I even needed the OB part. None of them had his mixture of expertise and personal attention.
