I like Dr. Rettinger most of the time. He can be a bit "in his own world" at times. His office staff isn't so great except for Molly that runs the place herself. Thank goodness he has her or the office would fall apart!

Doctors, like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder. I like Dr. Rettinger a lot. He was referred to me by my Internist-Cardiologist. The first time I had to see him he was booked solid but made time for me at the end of his patient day, so I got in the same day I was recommended to him. I tend to be independent, questioning and, on occasion, obstreperous. But Dr. Rettinger always listens, makes his suggestions and explains anything that needs explaining. I don't accept recommendations unless the Doctor has a sense of humor (yes, this is really important), will take the time to listen, and is tops in his field. Dr. R meets all of my requirements and I have been a patient for many years. We don't always agree but we respect each other. He found a problem with my parathyroid, which he tracked till it needed to be operated on and now he tracks my thyroid. I highly recommend him.

The staff is average, the weight time takes forever, the waiting area needs work but overall doctor Rettinger is a great Endocrinologist who shows that he cares but taking the extra time with his patients he can be stern at times but he is doing this because he really does care

I have been seeing dr. Rettinger for a few years. Initially he seems nice and kind. But gradually it feel very fake and although he sees me often and involve in conversations about my family and all... The next appointment he has no idea who I was and need to read the notes again to figure out. When I prepare for rai he didn't tell me much info beside "did you get the low iodine diet guidelines?" When I ask in depth questions he is great at brushing it off politely. Don't mistake his polite mannerism as being caring. He is not concern about patients.

Wait times can be hard, but a stellar doctor has a big crowd. He has told me he is getting a new associate (his daughter!) in the fall to speed wait times dramatically. As am RN and a thyroid CA survivor x 10 years with Doc Rettinger, some of the comments offend me. I also had multifocal MICRO papillary thyroid CA. Dr. Rettinger was the PRESIDENT of the California Assoc. of Endocrinologists. With my medical background and knowledge of current thyroid cancer treatment guidelines, I got the EXACT RIGHT treatment, even after a relapse (very common with papillary CA). Seeing this Doc. is seeing an old-time expert. Looking forward to less wait.

I was very unhappy with Dr. Rettinger's office. I was early for my appointment & told the staff I had to get back to my office in an hour. I was left in the waiting room for 50 minutes before I got up & asked how much longer it would be. They told me it would just be a few minutes. The same thing I was told when I walked in. 20 minutes later I was put in a room. I could hear one of the staff telling Dr. Rettinger he had a patient. He told her to have the nurse practitioner see me. She came in & I told I wanted to wait for the Dr. She got upset & argued with me. I politely told her again I wanted to see the Dr & she left the room. I waited for another 15 minutes before the Dr came in to see me. The visit last about 10 minutes. I felt very rushed with him. I didn't feel the staff was helpful at all. If Dr. Rettinger is that busy, his office should book less appointments. I don't feel they were professional & they don't care about their patients schedules.

Dr. Rettinger recommended NO radioactive iodine for me, after I was diagnosed with MULTIFOCAL papillary CA, but said I could always change my mind. I did, the next month, but he spent 4 visits arguing (in a very polite way) with me about it. Finally went to another doctor after several physicians (including my surgeon) said he was "insane", "pursuing an unusual course" etc. Now? I've had my radioactive iodine, but my cancer has spread. He did the same to another patient I met in my new docs waiting room. She's got worse spread...and has 3 small children. Dr. Rettinger has likely killed both of us. And papillary cancer is the most curable. Not with him doing the treating.

Appointments are a nightmare, seldom get out of waiting room in less than one hour, has been as long as three hours, this with a scheduled appointment. Dr. Rettinger is medically competent but lacks any concept of patient time value. Not a good choice unless you are very sick or have nothing else to do.
