This man is a butcher. Stay away from him! I beg of you. I went in for a simple day "procedure" (as he put it) for my gallbladder. He informed me that I would just have this "procedure" (here on in referred to as "surgery") and after a short awakening state, I would just get up from the table and go home. OH SOOOO SIMPLE! Not so! I awoke in a hospital bed in such pain I just wanted to die. Seriously! He had fowled up so bad that (I won't go into every gory detail) I infected and it formed an absess in a sinus cavity in my upper abdomen. Days went by when he would come in with these blunt metal instruments and push them in this open wound he had in my abdomen to keep it open. The problem here was he was not providing any drainage. A couple of time he came in with this wandlike thing that resembled a sparkler. When I asked what it was he kind of bruskly told me it was (I am not to sure now) magnesium or some such thing coating this stick thing. When it touches liquid it burns. He was proceeding to burn this wound open. I want to add, that these little efforts were very painful and if I would make any sound of pain he would tell me to be quite. It was almost like he was sneaking in my room to do this. I don't know but it was really strange. I felt like I was in some kind of horror movie and he was the mad Doctor. Anyhow, time passed and nothing good was happening. Days would pass and twice a day the nurses came in and would carefully and kindly try to clean this open wound and were told to keep it open. I could see them cringe as they carefully did their job. At least they weren't using his strange instruments. Finally one night as I lay sleeping, my temp. rose so high they were packing my whole bed in ice and they did lose me. I don't know for exactly how long but I do remember at one point coming to and sceaming for them to let me die. I probably didn't scream, it was probably more of a whimper. Seemed like a scream to me? The head nurse that night was a real spunky and super good nurse. I recall her saying, "Not on my watch"! Those super nurses saved my life that night! They had called the Butcher to tell them my temp was skyrocketing and he said basically, "what do you need me in there for?". He was in bed and did not even want to make the effort to come and see me. He eventually did when all the work was over and the nuses fought for my life and brought me back from death. I was conscious when he appeared at my doorway and asked stupidly, what all the fuss was about? He didn't bother to even come in and see how I was! After that little debacle the hospital took over. Gave me an MRI to see where the best place to put in a drain tube. They put one in and things started to work right. The absess started draining and after almost a month I was on my way to a semi recovery. I was so sick of that place I went home with in-home nursing care. I will add though that I trully believe that that high fever and the how ever long my loss of life, did something in my brain was not the same. My personality took on a different tone which I did not even relize at the time. It was only a few years later that I realized it. Perhaps, my brain has found different pathways and rewired itself? I don't know for sure. There were a few other things that went kind of haywire with my body but I think I have made my point. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUTCHER!! Also, read the comments below, before you let him kill you too!

I was referred to him by my family doctor for minor surgery. He was helpful and very easy to talk to. He made a point to come out into the waiting room at the hospital to talk with my wife to explain what the procedure was and what she could do at home. He had three follow-ups including a consult with a cancer specialist and me, and helped make me make a decision.

I went to see this Dr and he was absolutely horrible. No bed side manner to speak of and I would never let him touch me. I just read the reviews and he did not care about what I had to say or even listen to anything. He ratteled off questions and shooed me and out of his office. I have heard he is not good and NOW believe that to be true. I don't trust him at all.

Is this "Doctor" still practising? WHY? He almost killed my daughter in what should have been a routine gall bladder operation. He botched it. She was leaking bile into her abdomen for many days. Pressing on her organs and heart causing extreme pain and almost caused her to have a heart attack at age 22! She had to be rushed to royal Columbian hospital by ambulance so they could repair his damage. WHY is this person still practising??? Where are the lawyers???

I'm having surgery in October to repair an issue caused by my emergency surgery done by Spittel at RMH in 2012....have been in agony for almost 2 years. My new surgeon was just shaking her head when I went to see her and she read his surgical report and diagnosed what is wrong with me now as a result of him not doing my surgery properly....she said no other surgeon in North America would have done your surgery like this.
